A handcuffed suspect stole a Dallas police cruiser with an officer inside

There was chaos at the traffic stop when the handcuffed suspect crashed into a Dallas police cruiser, got out with the officer in the back seat and recovered while the vehicle was still moving, authorities said.
Newly released body camera and dash cam footage captured the moments leading up to the suspect’s escape from his restraints and the chain of events that followed.
Police say the incident began around 5:35 pm on May 30 after two officers conducted a traffic stop in the 2300 block of South Marsalis Avenue.
Stacey Huffman, 37, was arrested and placed in the back seat of a patrol car while handcuffed.

Video recorded from inside the car appears to show Huffman removing his left hand from the handcuffs before hiding his hands behind his back.
As police began to take him to the jail, Huffman allegedly tried to open the locked back door and removed his belt.
Officers stopped a squad car on Interstate 35 around 6:10 p.m. to further restrain Huffman, according to police.

Moments later, as both officers got out of the car, Huffman allegedly got into the driver’s seat and sped away.
One officer was able to get into the backseat before the car drove off and pull out his Taser, but police said it was unsuccessful after Huffman pulled the trigger.
The policeman can be heard shouting repeatedly, “Stop the car!” as Huffman allegedly continued to accelerate.

Police say the officer then drew his weapon and struck Huffman in the side of the head after speeding away.
The video shows the police officer being thrown violently into the back seat while the patrol car is rolling down the road.
Authorities say Huffman opened the driver’s side door while driving at 50 mph and jumped out of the car.

The patrol car traveled 1,000 meters at the time of the incident, according to the police. The video shows that Huffman was in control of the car for about 30 seconds.
Soon after Huffman got out of the car, the officer threw himself into the front seat and regained control of the patrol car, avoiding a possible accident.
Huffman was knocked unconscious and taken into custody, police said. Both Huffman and the officer were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Huffman is expected to face charges including driving with a suspended license, possession of a controlled substance, illegal possession of a firearm, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and fleeing custody.
The incident is still under investigation.
