James Carville says the NY winner should not join the Democratic caucus

Darializa Avila Chevalier is running for the first election in New York, but Democratic Alliance strategist James Carville is not celebrating.

The Socialist-backed New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who won Tuesday night’s election in New York’s 13th Congressional District, has undertaken a career in “community organizing,” and has a history of controversy, including founding a group in college that called for the “complete elimination of Western civilization.”

NewsNation interviewed Carville on Thursday about his response to the many leftists who have succeeded in New York. While downplaying some fears that he actually won three seats in New York, he said that Avila Chevalier should not be associated with the Democratic Party.

“I don’t think two of them are Democrats. This lady from Chevalier, I don’t want – they shouldn’t put her in the caucus. Her views are completely against any Democrats. We believe in pluralism, she doesn’t believe in racial peace,” he said. “I don’t think there’s a place in a party. I don’t have one, I’m not sure you want to be a Democrat. Go do something else! Create your own party!”

NewsNation anchor Elizabeth Vargas noted that Avila Chevalier called for an end to ICE and the police, a freeze on all deportations, calling out war criminal veterans, and various other issues, asking, “Who is this person?”

“He’s not a Democrat, okay?” Carville said. “That’s very clear, and frankly, I think a lot of Democrats feel the same way I do. I’m powerless, just a washed-up old consultant, but I wouldn’t seat him! This is not who we are! And we should just say, look, you were elected right, you had your seat in Congress, but you wouldn’t get any committee assignments where most Democrats get.”

He noted that one commentator has noticed that many politicians who hate Democrats are running as part of their party.

“Why do you want to run as a Democrat?” he responded. “Start your own movement! If it’s such a powerful, sweeping movement with great momentum everywhere, go ahead, be its head, don’t use the Democratic Party to push it forward. We don’t care about it.”

Vargas went on to note that there is an increase in antisemitism and anti-Israel sentiment within the Democratic Party, asking Carville if he agrees with Rep. Dan Goldman that this development shows the danger of democracy itself.

“It’s disgusting, OKAY? And you have to be careful not to mix the two things up,” he warned. “You can be very against” the policies of the Israeli government, which I can describe as myself, but if you say ‘I don’t think Israel should exist,’ then I have no place for you.”

“I have all the space in the world to criticize Israel’s policies, to criticize the settlements – which I think are stupid and ignorant to begin with, and they continue. You can criticize if they reacted strategically on October 7. That’s all good. Everything is good,” he said.

Where he draws the line, he said, is when one opposes the concept of Israel’s existence or opposes the Jewish people themselves as a group.

“You have no place at my table, I can tell you that,” he said about such people. “But I think the smart political move is not to accommodate these people.”

When pressed that many people on the left are representatives of the modern Democratic Party, Carville reiterated that although they have the right to speak their minds, they should not identify themselves as Democrats.

“Don’t just call the name of the Democratic Party in doing that, because you are hurting the United States in the end,” he said.

Vargas included Carville talking about the Democratic agenda, opposing far-left sentiments to “get rid of everything and, you know, ‘free Palestine.'”

“You’re crazy,” Carville said of those who support those views. “I don’t have time for these people.”

Fox News Digital reached out to Avila Chevalier’s office and did not immediately receive a response.
