The man accused of stalking UCLA students in a car is facing charges of rape

A 24-year-old man accused of locking UCLA students in his car is facing charges of rape and other violence and police are warning that more victims may be involved.

UCLA police announced the arrest of Alexander Schecter, a Santa Monica resident who detectives say is connected to multiple crimes including sexual assault, kidnapping and robbery.

Schecter was taken into custody on March 20 at his Santa Monica residence and booked into the Los Angeles County jail system.

He faces felony charges including rape, sexual assault, robbery, robbery and battery.

Bail was set at $600,000, but records show he has since been released.

The arrest stems from an incident that happened early this morning near the center earlier this month.

According to the detectives, on March 8 around 03:00, two female students from UCLA were being dropped off when the suspect allegedly prevented them from getting out of the car and threatened violence.

Fearing for their safety, the victims stayed inside while the suspect drove the car about half a mile before stopping in the Gayley Avenue area.

Detectives identified Schecter as the suspect and arrested him days later on charges of kidnapping and false imprisonment. He was booked and later posted bail.

During the investigation, police said detectives found evidence linking Schecter to a previously unreported sexual assault involving an older woman who is not known to be affiliated with UCLA.

The assault occurred on October 12, 2025, in the area of ​​Venice Boulevard and Clarington Avenue in Los Angeles, according to police, who later confirmed the attack and had grounds for additional charges.

Investigators say they believe there may be other victims and urge anyone with information to contact the UCLA Police Department.

Authorities said Schecter is not believed to be affiliated with the university.

It is unclear whether Schechter has an attorney representing him.
