FBI Director Kash Patel warned Wednesday that terrorist threats to the US are “real,” as Sen. David McCormick, R-Pa., tied the risk to previous border policies and accused Democrats of undermining national security in the fight against money.

Given the heightened concern about the threat of sleeper cells amid the US war with Iran, Fox News Digital has asked the FBI director to reconsider the Biden administration’s focus on white supremacy as a top domestic threat. Patel pointed to recent attacks as evidence of the growing threat of foreign-related terrorism.

“President Trump has prioritized protecting his country and the resources to do so. These two recent tragic examples (in Virginia and Michigan) are a sad, sad reminder of what’s happening, especially in Norfolk, when you allow a real convicted terrorist to not complete his prison sentence,” Patel said.

McCormick and Patel spoke to Fox News Digital at the federal courthouse in the center of Pennsylvania’s third largest city, Allentown, on Wednesday following a panel discussion focused on cracking down on fentanyl.

The FBI director was talking about Mohamed Jalloh, an American citizen born in Sierra Leone. he entered the classroom at Old Dominion University in Norfolk last month they opened fire and one person was killed. Jalloh was convicted of supporting ISIS in 2017.

Also in March, federal investigators said Ayman Mohamad Ghazali was tortured by Iran-backed Hezbollah when he drove his car into a synagogue in West Bloomfield, Michigan that was packed with more than 100 children.

McCormick noted that during the Biden administration, hundreds of people on America’s terrorist watch list have moved to the nation.

Many of them are loose in our country,” he said.[T]The management’s attempt to close the border, which has been successfully done, now [to] take those violent criminals back home.”

Under the Biden administration, white supremacy was seen as a priority to combat as a terrorist threat. The Delaware Democrat, himself, told the audience at Howard University that he tried to “distinguish the most dangerous threat to our country.” [that] white supremacy.”

In a September 2024 House Homeland Security subcommittee hearing, Chairman August Pfluger, R-Texas, said 382 people whose names appeared on the terrorist list “were stopped from attempting to cross the US-Mexico border illegally between ports of entry from FY2021 through FY2024 year to date. This compares to 11 people apprehended since FY20120 FY20120 FY20120 FY2020 FY2020.”

Meanwhile, the Department of Homeland Security — separate from but related to the FBI’s work — remains cut due to a Democrat-authorized appropriations freeze that has left the TSA and other agencies without adequate resources, including salaries.

Patel called the department the FBI’s greatest law enforcement partner around the world, and cited key forces working together.

“Every day and every time someone [in DHS] misses a salary, there is another opportunity for criminals to use a system that should be easily fixed,” said Patel.

“And thanks to Senator Dave McCormick and the case he’s leading, I believe DHS will be funded. And those who voted to fund DHS are actually voting against law enforcement, and to me it makes no sense.”

McCormick added that while the shutdown was already “irresponsible and shameful” in February, it has now been exacerbated by the Iran conflict.

“It’s a complete political stunt on Chuck Schumer’s part,” he said, calling the idea that Democrats would use DHS funding as “political expediency” during wartime “unforgivable.”

The shutdown is in its 49th day since Friday and more than 200,000 DHS employees are affected, according to reports.

“What’s happening is that Schumer is always walking the line in terms of what he’s trying to accomplish. I think it’s a disgrace,” McCormick said.
