George Clooney criticized President Donald Trump for his latest threat to release troops to attack Iran’s infrastructure, calling the speech a “war crime.”
In a Tuesday Truth Social post, Trump, 79, issued a dire warning to Iran if the country doesn’t reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway, and agree to an end-to-end deal before an 8 p.m. deadline.
“All civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will,” Trump wrote in part. A two-week ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran and Israel was later reached before the deadline.
On Wednesday, Clooney, 64, a longtime critic of Trump, denounced the threat during a speech at the “Dialogues on Talent” event in Cuneo, Italy.

The event, organized by Clooney and his wife Amal Clooney’s Clooney Foundation for Justice and the CRC Foundation and the Collistioni Foundation, was attended by 3,000 high school students from all over the province of Cuneo.

On Wednesday, Clooney responded to the White House with praise for her work and acting skills in a statement to Deadline.
“Families are losing loved ones,” Clooney said. “Children have been burned. The world economy is on a knife’s edge. This is a time for intense debate at the highest levels. Not naming babies. I’ll start. War crimes are alleged ‘when there is an intent to destroy a nation,’ as defined by the Genocide Convention and the Rome Statute. What is the defense of the administration? [besides calling me a failed actor which I happily agree with having starred in Batman and Robin?].”

“I’m worried about NATO,” the “Ocean’s Eleven” star said. “It has ensured that Europe, but also the whole world, is safe. The dismantling of an institution like this worries me. Without many mistakes, I believe that the US [with NATO] he has also done many unusual things that have stood the test of time.
