Michelle Pfeiffer’s decision to join Taylor Sheridan’s new series “The Madison” was not an easy one.
The Hollywood legend has shared that his “battle” with the famous director over unscripted voiceover has finally won.
During an appearance on the “Today” show on Friday, host Willie Geist said, “This role, I understand, was a surprise. He called you and said, ‘Effectively, I designed a series around you, are you there?’ What did you say?”

Pfeiffer replied, “I said, ‘Good, I’d like to learn something.’
But there was a twist, as Sheridan, known for pulling talent from outside the script, threw Pfeiffer for a loop when he revealed, “I’d like to broadcast first, then write.”
Pfeiffer wasn’t sold on the idea right away. “We went back and forth like that for a few weeks,” he admitted.
“I realized that I was not going to win this fight, so I took a big leap of faith. Obviously, you have an amazing history.”

Sheridan’s success in the genre and his impressive track record – especially with “Yellowstone” – eventually convinced him to enter.
“He talked to me … he gave me a general type of character and whatnot [the] the trip was for the family … I was interested in that,” he explained.

“It’s sad, doing a TV show and being away for all those months, but you know, I know it now.”
It wasn’t just Sheridan’s reputation that sealed the deal – Pfeiffer called actress Helen Mirren, who starred in the “1883,” “Yellowstone’s” prequel, for advice.
Pfeiffer explained, “I don’t know Helen, but from what I’ve seen and heard, she’s a ‘take no prisoners’ type of person. I thought he was going to be really straight with me, like ‘Run’ or you know … and it was basically like ‘run and do it.’
