Some survivors of Jeffrey Epstein’s abuse are pushing back against first lady Melania Trump’s call for a public hearing, as House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., confirmed Friday that “we will have a hearing,” following Trump’s rare public statement Thursday at the White House in which he waved his hand at those who linked Epstein.
The first lady also called on Congress to hold hearings “focused specifically on survivors.”
“Give these victims their chance to testify under oath before Congress with the power of sworn testimony,” Trump said. “Each woman should have her day to tell her story in public if she wishes, and her testimony be forever recorded in the Congressional Record.”
But a group of 15 Epstein victims issued a joint statement Friday against the move.
“First Lady Melania Trump is now passing the burden on to the survivors,” they said. “The survivors of Jeffrey Epstein have already shown incredible courage by coming forward, filing reports, and giving evidence,” they added. “To ask more of them now is an abdication of responsibility, not justice.”

Comer said such a hearing was always on his radar.
“I agree with the first lady and I appreciate what she said. We will have an ear,” Comer told Fox News’ Sandra Smith. “I was always planning to listen to the victims.
“My attorneys at the Oversight Committee have been in constant communication for months with attorneys representing Epstein’s victims,” he added. “There are victims who are determined to enter, [but] many of the victims are not, and I completely understand that, but we have always planned to have a hearing for Epstein’s victims once the application is completed. “
Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton were both fired by the Oversight Committee earlier this year to investigate questions related to Epstein in February, with the planned impeachment of Microsoft founder Bill Gates in June.

“The first lady did three things [Thursday] as it relates to the Epstein scandal,” the first lady’s top adviser, Marc Beckman, told “Fox & Friends” on Friday. “First, he cleared his record; he set the record straight, disproved all the lies surrounding him and Epstein.”

“Secondly, she became a champion for these women, the victims, and finally, thirdly, she is a real leader in Washington, DC. She is asking Congress to act now.”

It is not clear when they will appear or how many survivors will testify.
“The survivors have done their part. Now it’s time for those in charge to do their part,” the survivors said in a statement.
