Virginia’s reshuffle is set to shift power in the north, the op-ed says

Oliver Anthony emerged in 2023 with his sad song “Rich Men North of Richmond,” lamenting the power and control the professional and industrial classes of the north have over the rural south. In Virginia’s ongoing battle for Congressional redistricting, Anthony’s ballad lives on.
On April 21, in a special election to change the Commonwealth constitution, the Democrats from the rich northern part of Virginia are expected to drive the poor people from the south, changing the federal map from a 6-5 advantage of the Democratic Alliance, to a clear 10-1 control of the non-democratic group.
David, who lives in Windsor, and works part-time in the Williamsburg area in construction told me that he feels powerless.

“It feels like the Democrats are in control of everything now, and nobody’s fighting back,” he told me. “I’ve only seen ads for a yes vote on TV.”

You have a point. Windsor is south of Richmond, and the real power of the commonwealth is increasingly in the hands of the wealthiest, blue-collar counties in Virginia north of Richmond, leaving the poor people of the southern counties out of luck.
Some people fight back, though.
As I finished eating at Craft 41, a mid-sized restaurant outside of Williamsburg, my son pointed to the parking lot. Over my shoulder, I saw someone put a “Vote No” sign on the windshield as if it were a sunblock.
VIRGINIA DEM AGREE PUSHES AIMED TO ‘STOP TRUMP’, NOT ABOUT ‘FAIRNESS’
A couple who looked to be in their 70s walked in, both wearing American flag sweaters. They were sitting there as I paid the check, and although it wouldn’t please my boss, I didn’t have the heart to interrupt their delicious meal together by asking them about politics.

It turns out they shouldn’t, because their message was literally painted on the side of their car, one part of which reads:
“Redistricting ignores more than 1/3rd of Virginia voters.”

It also included the disparaging quote, “Gerrymandering is damaging our democracy,” a quote from Virginia Democrat Gov. Current Abigail Spanburger.
As I fired up my Lancer, I said to my son, “The Virginia GOP has more money than God, yet those two people made the best political messages I’ve seen in the entire nation.”

The upcoming polls pit rural Virginians against wealthy northern states, and could leave the Old Dominion with one reliably Republican House seat. (Fox News Digital)
Just like last year in the presidential race, the Virginia Republican Party, and I will throw in the national GOP, they were flat-footed, inactive and worse, interested in the rich people in the north of Richmond than the people in the south and west of the state.
RNC WANTS TO STOP DEMOCRATS’ VIRGINIA REDISTRICTING PUSH
For the past two weeks, the GOP and many conservative media have focused on NOVA – as northern Virginia is known – issues, such as taxes on the rich or on services used by the rich, are not a winning strategy.
If Republicans want to pull off a late-game victory in Virginia, they need to understand that this is a class war, not a policy war. It’s a loafer and cardigan set that sticks with men and women with strings on their hands and steals their votes.
Part of the problem is that the Virginia GOP leadership also happens to be big fans of loafers and cardigans, and what they don’t have is Oliver Anthony who can speak for the forgotten working class, farmers, and patriots.

There is also racism in all of this, because if any political party tried to completely exterminate the poor Black or Hispanic people, the way the poor White people are clearly treated here, it would be a national disgrace.
Maybe part of the reason I couldn’t work up the courage to go talk to an elderly couple at a restaurant was that I thought they would lose, and I didn’t relish the idea of telling them that.
But at least they’re not going down without a fight, which is more than I can say so far for the state and national GOP.
SOROS GROUP AMONG LIBERAL ORGS CALLS FOR EYES FOR VIRGINIA GERRYMANDERING ATTEMPT
In his song, Oliver Anthony sings;
“Living in a new world with an old soul
These men are rich north of Richmond
Lord, you know they all want total control.”

Well, it’s not just a song anymore, it’s real life. And on April 21, it will steal the power to vote from poor men in south Richmond.
If there is a chance to stop it, then this should be the message and it should be very loud.
