MS NOW host Jen Psaki played down talk about using the 25th Amendment against President Donald Trump on Thursday during an interview with Stephen A. Smith, asking why Democrats are so focused on it when “it’s not going to happen.”

Smith asked Psaki during his show, “Straight Shooter,” about the left being so “vehemently against the other side” that it came across as “vitriolic.”

“I think there are times, I think a lot of people aren’t – and I can’t speak for everyone on the left, I don’t agree with everything the left says or – you know, sometimes it’s just not constructive,” Psaki said. “I mean, you’ve talked about the 25th Amendment. I don’t have a problem with people who say they intend to amend the 25th Amendment, but it’s not going to happen. So, it’s like why are we wasting so much time, you know?”

Smith also shut down talk of using the 25th Amendment against Trump.

Calls for the 25th amendment came from several Democratic lawmakers, in addition to some Trump critics such as former GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Psaki said some Democrats, especially progressives, feel their identity is being challenged by the Trump administration, but said the party also needs to reach more people to win elections.

“One thing that is true is that in order to win you have to invite a lot of people to the party,” he said. “So, if you want to win, you have to accept that sometimes there may be people who are part of your party or will welcome you to an event or a debate that you don’t agree with 100% on issues. And I think sometimes there can be a little bit of a litmus-testy feeling about who is allowed to be a Democratic Alliance or who can consider themselves progressive.”

Psaki added that Democrats’ sense of “shouting” about everything Trump does is not helping.

“And part of that goes hand in hand like you have to be loud about everything that comes out of the Trump administration,” she said. “And it annoys me a lot. But I don’t think shouting about one thing is very constructive.”

More than 50 Democratic lawmakers have called on the Trump administration to effectively impeach him using the 25th Amendment, saying the president is unfit to serve for his views and actions on Iran. Their demands were prompted by his announcement on social media that “the whole civilization will die” unless the Iranian government agrees to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
