“Yes, if you want,” replied Brand.

Morgan then asked if the Bible was the one he brought to his sexual assault and rape case.

When Brand confirmed the question, Morgan asked another:

“What did you think about bringing it to court, and what you saw, looking at certain episodes, which episodes are specific to you?”

“Thanks for asking,” Brand replied.

He continued to search through the pages of the Bible, looking for a verse from Isaiah, but to no avail.

His investigation continued in silence for about a minute and a half. Morgan said nothing while Brand repeatedly explained that the verse he wanted was from the Old Testament.

As he completed his search, Brand settled on a different verse in Isaiah chapter 12.

“Actually, I can’t find the verse I had that day, but it’s good enough,” he continued reading Isaiah 12:1-2.

“I will praise Jehovah, although you were angry with me, but your anger has returned and you comforted me,” he said.

“Surely God is my salvation, I trust in you, I am not afraid, Jehovah, Jehovah is my strength and my protection.

The incident caused an uproar on X, with one user accusing Brand of using the Bible as a “PR shield.”

“It’s a miracle of biblical proportions,” the user wrote.

“For decades, Russell Brand has played the high priest of hedonism and ego, but when the law comes knocking with rape and systematic abuse, he suddenly finds Jesus. This ‘conversion’ doesn’t smell of incense; it feels like pure, unadulterated desperation…”

“I’ve never laughed so hard at someone’s bulls—,” said another, snapping three laughing emojis.

A third added in part, “The clip is not easy to watch… it raises pertinent questions about public religious pronouncements at a time of personal crisis. What do you think—a true spiritual moment or an easy sight?”

A fourth X user called the incident a “horrible watch,” and another chimed in, “Lmao embarrassing. Another example of how people use religion as an excuse.”

Others, including many Christians, rushed to Brand’s defense amid the mockery, including some who said they too could not find a book, chapter and verse easily when they asked.

“I pray Russell doesn’t take any of the criticism to heart. He’s trying to figure things out while his eyes are on him. A lot of pressure on a boy who chose a small, wandering path,” another supporter wrote.

“This is ridiculous!” Said another.

“This is the first time I read the Bible. There are verses that touch and hold me, but as a new believer I don’t know very well. [which] verse. I can still be a follower and a believer but I can’t repeat chapter by verse.”

Another comment, translated into Spanish, asked, “Does the media really have the right to judge a person’s behavior before a judge does?”

One commentator defended Brand by encouraging viewers to watch the entire episode, revealing that he was quoting another verse from memory. That was Isaiah 43:19: “Behold, I am doing a new thing.

“Writing in the Bibles is LITTLE. Russell’s faith may be the only thing that keeps him alive. Think of his wife and young children. Think of all the people who help get rid of drugs. Wait for the judge to decide his fate. Let’s not break God’s commandments by bearing false witness. A story that HAPPENS.”

This incident happened when Brand was criticized for alleged sexual harassment.

Brand recently admitted that he did what he called “exploitation” but had consensual sex with a 16-year-old girl.
