Trump survived a third assassination attempt amid a political free fall

NEWNow you can listen to Fox News articles!

Donald Trump has been written off a thousand times and has managed to bounce back.

He ended up getting stuck when he first entered the race and was mocked as a sidekick. When the tape “Get to Hollywood” came out. When his supporters attacked the Capitol on Jan.

He was charged with two counts of impeachment and four counts of criminal mischief. He won again when that seemed like a long play. He is the Harry Houdini of Washington.

And on Saturday night, he survived his third assassination attempt. At a dinner that was expected to be attended by the president mocking the media, his calm reaction when he was targeted by a gunman armed with weapons, touched him deeply. It’s a dangerous job, he said.

TRUMP’S LEFT-WING PLAY IS PUSHING PEOPLE OVER THE EDGE – WITH BAD RESULTS.

In fact, he “fought like hell” to continue with the dinner of the Association of Journalists, but the Secret Service – one of whose members was shot but saved by a protective vest – insisted on cleaning the room.

At the same time, Trump has such mounting political problems that it is hard to avoid the conclusion that he is in free fall.

The president is full of unpopular war and has canceled the latest negotiations. Rising gas prices are causing pain at home. They may lose re-inhibition wars. Some of his most prominent supporters in the conservative media have turned against him, and even apologized for supporting him.

It doesn’t end there. Democrats are almost certain to win the House. They talked about impeaching Trump on the day they were sworn in. Sure, he would come out of the Senate innocent, but his last two years would be a lot of investigation and payback.

In addition, the president will not run again. He will still have executive power, but the House can block much of what he wants to do (and this is more than a media myth that the opposition can take over the Senate as well).

In regular polls, Trump has dropped to 33% approval rating in the AP poll, his worst numbers ever.

More eye-catching is a new large-sample poll, from Strength in Numbers/Verasight, that says 21% of Republicans support prosecution, while 72% are opposed. Among independents, 50% support criticizing the president.

And a Fox News poll found more respondents trusting Democrats than Republicans on the economy, by four points, for the first time in 15 years.

This comes after Trump fired three women from his Cabinet, causing uproar, and his wife gave a televised speech denying any involvement with Jeffrey Epstein.

But let’s do a reality check.

Trump’s relentless attacks on the media have hit them hard, many dismissing this as fueling personal enmity. And the Democrats, with few exceptions, are not helping themselves by appearing to root for Iranian terrorists when our service members are at risk.

By November, the war in Iran will be a distant memory. The economy may enjoy an uptick. Even now, as the ceasefire collapses due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, the stock market has hit a high.

Trump will use his media expertise to control the media agenda. He is already taking calls from reporters at all hours.

THE SHOOTING SUSPECT’S MANIFESTO CLEARLY STATED WHO HE WANT TO TARGET, SAYING WHITE.

Democrats have no leaders. Even if Hakeem Jeffries is the speaker, the president will make a lot of news. That won’t change until the 2028 primaries, when a frontrunner or two emerges.

Trump can make headlines with executive orders, such as decriminalizing marijuana and increasing research into psychedelic drugs.

The betrayal expressed by his former allies on the right, who have accepted his pledge of no new foreign wars, may not matter much to those who are immersed in the cyber world. But it is a case of the breakup of the MAGA alliance.

Now some of its leading members are calling him careless and careless.

Nobody likes this more than Democrats and Never Trumpers, who say wait, do you see this now? We’ve been telling you this for years.

“Trump seems eager to run for the hills,” said New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd. “He always says he has defeated the mullahs and ‘destroyed’ their military power, but Iran refuses to be defeated.”

The obvious, says veteran columnist Andrew Sullivan: “Trump is completely out of his depth. He went to war rashly. He never expected the Iranians to close the Strait of Hormuz; then they did. And he can’t open it again. In fact, he decided to close it again. Or something.”

Throw in the AI image of Trump as Jesus, which offended many Catholics, and the list of unforced errors just grows. He even attacked the Supreme Court, a third of which he appointed.

And there is growing concern about the health of the president, who is about to turn 80 years old, as he plays with television images every time he closes his eyes in a meeting.

Trump often talks about building his own ballroom, which reminds people of his demolition of the East Wing and plans for a smaller Arc de Triomphe monument. He unveiled it after Saturday night’s shooting, saying the playroom would be bulletproof and more secure.

Trump also used a gun at the Washington Hilton to emphasize his importance. Having studied murder, he said, “the people who have the most impact, the people who do the most… are the ones who follow them.”

Politically, it is clear that Trump is struggling. But anyone who decides that this president should be reinstated is ignoring history.

There are going to be all kinds of twists and turns in the remaining six months before the midterms, and Democrats are not favored.

But here’s a moment of rare consensus: We can all be thankful that the Secret Service did its job well.
