With the Kentucky Derby here and the summer entertaining season in full swing, a decades-old cold vodka hack from Martha Stewart is making an eye-catching and practical comeback, keeping the bottle ice-cold for hours while on display.
The lifestyle icon’s signature presentation of “iced vodka” — a bottle of liquor frozen in ice filled with flowers — is making the rounds online again, drawing millions of views and inspiring hosts to try the cool and realistic hack.
“Iced vodka is one of my favorites, and I like to make the perfect presentation of a bottle of vodka covered in an ice cube with flowers,” Stewart said in a rerun of the show. “It’s really easy to do.”

To do it, he puts a 750-milliliter vodka bottle inside a gallon milk carton with the top removed, arranges flowers around it, and fills the container with cold water before freezing.

“A fifth of vodka fits nicely into a half-gallon container like this,” says Stewart, as he demonstrates putting cherry blossoms and quince sprigs into the bottle.
Once it hardens, the carton peels off, revealing a clear ice filled with flowers in the bottle.

Besides the beauty, there is a practical benefit, says Stewart. Keeping vodka too cold can subtly change its texture and taste.
“Freezing really enhances the flavor of this almost tasteless beer,” says Stewart.
Beverage experts say cold vodka can dull the “burn” associated with hard liquor, resulting in a smoother drink.

“Leave it to Martha to come up with this great presentation,” said one TikToker in a Martha Stewart Living post. “That’s too high Martha I love you,” said another.
Others are inspired. “Wait, you’re running to buy milk and flowers,” said another.

But others weren’t sure if a cool party trick could really mask the taste of vodka. “Right now vodka tastes like rubbing alcohol,” said one skeptic.

And some weren’t sure it all worked, especially as it melted.
“It’s a good idea but it will cause chaos,” said another TikToker.

“It doesn’t work, hands are frozen and slippery,” added another.

Some of these concerns, however, can be addressed by placing the bottle on a tray to catch the blur, and Stewart can be seen in a throwback video holding the bottle covered in a dishcloth as he hands it over for a better grip.

And the trick can be easily customized. While Stewart highlights spring flowers, hosts can swap in orange slices, herbs or seasonal names like cranberries and pine for a holiday version, according to Food Republic.
Using clear ice, which can be achieved with distilled or pre-boiled water, can also enhance the appearance.
