Stock Market Review Week – 05/04 – 05/08

Stocks had a strong week, with the Nasdaq and S&P 500 hitting record highs, lifted by hopes of a resolution on the conflict with Iran. A strong April jobs report on Friday added fuel to the rally.
This earnings season shows that the artificial intelligence (AI) business is alive and well. But there is still evidence that the rally is expanding to include other sectors, including small stocks, which have posted some of the strongest gains.
Meanwhile, what consumers do is very different from how they say they feel. But results from some consumer discretionary stocks showed that high gas prices continue to make low-income consumers watch their spending. Next week’s release of April’s CPI and PPI will give an indication of where inflation may be headed.
Writings of Thomas Hughes
NVIDIA Corp. NASDAQ: NVDA will report earnings on May 20. Thomas Hughes explained why the company’s China GPU market share (officially at 0%) is key to understanding the company’s backlog and what that will mean, with the bar set very high.
While NVDA includes, Advanced Micro Devices NASDAQ: AMD hold the bid. And as Hughes noted, the company’s earnings report could accelerate that growth. The good news for investors is that the growth cycle is just beginning.
Hughes also reviewed Shopify Inc. NASDAQ: SHOP. The company’s Q1 2026 earnings report was strong, but patience may be necessary as SHOP’s valuation is a near-wind.
Writings by Sam Quirke
Intel Corp. NASDAQ: INTC has been one of the most powerful artists since the beginning of April. This week, Sam Quirke explained why the company’s potential relationship with Apple Inc. NASDAQ: AAPL it can change the conversation and fuel the next leg of the meeting.
Lockheed Martin Corp. (LMT) delivered a surprisingly weak earnings report with top and bottom line misses. However, Quirke explained why the report looks like a one-off, which could be a blessing in disguise for a stock that has gone from overbought to oversold.
Amazon.com Inc. NASDAQ: AMZN is one of the best illustrations of how expensive AI infrastructure will be. Even a company with as much cash as Amazon is burning through cash reserves at a huge rate. However, Quirke noted that investors seem willing to give AMZN the benefit of the doubt.
Articles by Chris Markoch
Company Palantir Technologies Inc. NASDAQ: PLTR down nearly 10% despite the earnings report. This is not the first time it has happened to the company. Chris Markoch explained that, even though PLTR is not a valuation favorite, the stock could still go higher.
Natural gas demand continues to outstrip natural gas supply. Markoch noted that’s all investors really need to know behind William Company Inc. NYSE: WMB reported earnings. The company’s debt is high, but any concern is offset by demand from data centers.

Articles by Ryan Hasson
Sandisk NASDAQ: SNDK it has been a success story with real teeth behind it. But Ryan Hasson noted that the selloff following a strong earnings report that included a guidance hike suggests there may be something more positive. Investors will want to see if this is the setup for a new leg high.
A similar story may be set for the Nebius Group NASDAQ: NBIS. The stock is very high on news of important acquisitions and large backlogs. However, NBIS appears to be in a bubble, which means the company’s May 13 earnings report may be a selling event.
The story of this period of leadership has been the power that leads to resilience. Hasson pointed investors to five stocks that outperformed Q1 earnings as the market ended up yielding.
The writings of Leo Miller
Insider trading always gets the attention of investors. However, Leo Miller highlighted three of the most traded stocks inside and noted why only one of them would warrant concern.
The commercialization of GLP-1 became much easier after the recent proposal of the FDA that will limit certain compounding centers. Miller explained what that means for three prominent stocks in the space.
Earnings season follows a cadence. After the hyperscaler and chipmakers report, investors will hear from Broadcom Inc. NASDAQ: AVGO. Miller pointed out that recent results from hyperscalers are an indication that the bullishness surrounding Broadcom may be paying off.
Articles by Nathan Reiff
Quantum Computing shares have been on the rise, and a recent report from IonQ Inc. NYSE: IONQ shows that the rally may have legs. Nathan Reiff explained what investors liked about the report, and one data point that provided a sobering reminder that the sector still has some growing to do.
Like the creation of AI, the field of quantum computing has opportunities from companies that investors do not expect. Reiff highlighted two early tech companies that are entering the quantum space.
Unless, and perhaps because, US markets are trading near record levels, it may be a good idea to diversify into emerging market stocks. Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are a great choice for investors looking for exposure, and Reiff has highlighted three emerging market ETFs to watch.
Articles by Dan Schmidt
A common question after a company reports strong earnings is, “Should I keep buying?” This week, Dan Schmidt gave investors insight into that question for three AI stocks that broke earnings.
With the S&P 500 making new record highs, equity stocks can seem out of fashion. Beyond this, Schmidt noted a pattern with Costco Wholesale Corp. NASDAQ: Cost which indicates the likelihood of a special dividend being paid in 2026.
Writings of Jeffrey Neal Johnson
Company Corning Inc. NYSE: GLW is one of the latest recipients of direct funding from NVIDIA. Jeffrey Neal Johnson explained why this investment calls GLW a core AI infrastructure play and what it means from a technology perspective and fundamental valuation.
Johnson also explained why the difficult supply chain constraints on GPUs and high-performance memory have given birth to the Neocloud infrastructure issue. That was reflected in Backblaze’s performance NASDAQ: BLZEwhich made explosive moves after its Q1 2026 earnings report.
AMC Entertainment NYSE: AMC the stock is converging, and this time it’s not the fault of the stock meme. Johnson explained how several blockbuster box-office movies show that demand for movie theaters may be returning.
Writings by Jennifer Ryan Woods
The increased scrutiny of social media stocks, especially as they relate to children, is starting to show its way into stock prices. Jennifer Ryan Woods highlighted this issue as an important part of the strong earnings report from Roblox Corp. NYSE: RBLX.
Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd NYSE: NCLH has been widespread among cruise line stocks. Woods broke down the company’s latest earnings report, indicating that investors shouldn’t expect smooth sailing anytime soon.
Company TJX INC. NYSE: TJX remains one of the strongest selling stories. But the company’s guidance for slower growth comes with TJX near an all-time high. Investors looking to hunt for wealth may want a better option.
