The Dallas Wings are looking to capitalize on an injury to Chicago Sky’s Rickea Jackson in tonight’s WNBA road game.

I often think about how lucky we are to be introduced to sporting events every night. Sure, most countries have some kind of sport — tennis or soccer, usually — but America gets a ton of options almost every night. Tonight we have the NHL and NBA Playoffs, baseball, soccer and the WNBA. You may not watch it all, but I’ll bet on it, and I have a game to share about the Wings vs. Sky.

The Dallas Wings have won the past two WNBA Drafts. Going into this year, I expected them to be one of the most improved teams in the league. Not only did they take the best player available in Azzi Fudd, it was other offseason additions. They added a defensive presence in Alanna Smith, especially a 3-D player. That was one of their biggest problems from last year. They have a new coach, a team that seems to respect him this time.

It hasn’t been translated into good practice yet; the team is just 2-2, but it takes time for things to click and for adjustments to be made. They still have one of the best young players in the game in Paige Bueckers, and one of the best scorers in Arike Ogunbowale. I think my biggest concern is that Smith is averaging just 4.3 points per game, while Fudd is shooting just 20% from three this season. Both numbers should improve as the year progresses.

I’m man enough to admit when I’m wrong, and so far, I’ve been wrong about the Chicago Sky. I wasn’t rooting for them to keep Angel Reese, but they’ve traded away a lot of players on their team or let go of draft picks, so it’s made it hard to imagine that this team will be successful. They made some great offseason additions, and the team seems to be clicking. Unfortunately for them, Rickea Jackson, who had a great start to the year, just tore her ACL and is done for the year.

The team has enough veterans to keep it going. The question is who will take charge of the team. I think it will be distributed to everyone on the roster, as they don’t have one person that I can point to as taking the bulk of Jackson’s shots. I’m still not convinced that they will be a great team; three of the four teams they faced will struggle to make it to the finals, but I expected Zulu to be one of the worst teams in the league.

I don’t really like taking teams on the road as a favorite. However, I think this will be a very difficult game for Sky to figure out what to do without Jackson. They can really pull it off, because, as mentioned, they have veterans who know what they are doing. However, I think this gives the Wings a good chance to steal a road game.

I want to take over, but I only depend on playing. Everyone seems to be scoring on the Wings, but I think Chicago’s offense is regressing. Given that the best players are on the Wings, and have the better shot and play, I’m taking the Wings to win and cover the -3.5.
