Tropical Storm Jangmi, in the area called Domeng, will strengthen the southwest wind flow, which will bring rain to large parts of the country this weekend, according to the weather office on Friday.

Tropical Storm Jangmi has weakened to 85 kilometers per hour (kph) near its center, with gusts up to 105 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its press advisory at 11 am.

It was located 1,265 kilometers east of Southern Luzon, moving northwest at 15 kph.

The storm is not expected to make any direct impact during the next 24 hours, but it may develop a southwesterly flow that will bring rain to many parts of the country this weekend and early next week.

“The effect and its fall may be unpredictable, but tomorrow, Saturday, it is expected to improve the southwest wind flow,” said PAGASA meteorologist Obet Badrina during a press advisory in Filipino, adding that the southwest monsoon may be declared by the agency in the coming days.

Among the areas affected by the rain caused by the southwest wind flow on Saturday are Palawan and the western parts of Visayas and Mindanao.

“From Sunday to Tuesday, Tropical Storm Domeng is expected to develop a southwesterly wind flow, which will bring rains to the western part of the country,” said Mr. Badrina.

Apart from rains, strong to gale-force winds are also expected at many places due to enhanced southwesterly winds in Jangmi.

Areas expected to be affected on Saturday include most of Visayas, Batanes, Cagayan, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Palawan, Romblon, Marinduque, Masbate, and Albay.

Strong winds are also expected in Sorsogon, Zamboanga del Norte, Misamis Oriental, Camiguin, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands, Sarangani, Davao Occidental, and Davao Oriental.

On Sunday, the affected areas include most of the Visayas, Batanes, Cagayan, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Zamboanga del Norte, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, Camiguin, Agusan del Norte, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Sarangani, Davao Occidental, and Oriental Oriental.

As for Jangmi’s track and strength, PAGASA said it is likely to become a typhoon on Saturday while remaining in the Philippine Sea before weakening thereafter.

However, it is not expected that the entire country will appear in its entirety and it is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Monday.

According to the latest development, PAGASA urged the public and disaster reduction offices and management to take appropriate measures to protect life and property.

Residents in areas at high risk or high risk of storm-related hazards are also advised to follow evacuation orders and instructions from local officials.

There is no wind signal for a typhoon as of this forecast period, PAGASA said. Edg Adrian A. Eva
