“The View” host Sunny Hostin said she was disappointed in former first lady Jill Biden on Friday and doubted she had seen any signs of decline from her husband, former President Joe Biden.
“I’m a little disappointed that she was living with Joe Biden. You must have seen his decline. You must have seen it,” said Hostin. “Although he said, I’ve never seen him like this, and I’ve never seen him like this. I don’t think Joe – they’ve been together for a long time – I don’t think Joe Biden, who led that debate, had ever seen him,”
Co-host Joy Behar asked if she thought it was Jill’s job to say anything to her husband about running for a second term.
“I think he should have told him privately, ‘Joe, do you think you should run again?’ Because he promised us that he would be president for one term,” Hostin answered.

When asked by Rita Braver of CBS News in an interview scheduled to be heard in full on Sunday if she had seen signs that Joe was slowing down, Jill Biden said she did not know.
“No,” Biden replied. “He was the same, the essence of the same Joe Biden, but yes, he was slowing down. He was getting older… It’s very hard work. I think it’s getting old – fast.”
In the same interview, she said she was worried about her husband suffering a stroke during the infamous 2024 debate that eventually led to her leaving the race.
“I was shocked, because I had never seen Joe like that before or since. Never,” she told CBS. “I don’t know what happened. I was watching it and I thought, ‘Oh, my God, he’s having a stroke.’ And it scared me to death.”

Colleague Sara Haines echoed Hostin’s criticism during Friday’s show.
“When I hear what he says there, I can’t imagine that my first response will be: ‘You served your time. You got the end of these 50 years of service. You were president for four years. Now let’s – work enough, “said Haines.
He argued that if Jill thought Joe might have had a stroke, her immediate reaction should have been, “Okay, that’s enough here.”
Haines also pointed out that the Democratic Party should have handled Biden’s downfall differently, saying, “It was a cover-up and a lack of trust, and now we’re being assured, ‘No, we could have been trusted.'”
After the June 2024 presidential debate, several hosts of “The View” agreed that it may be time for former President Biden to drop out of the race. “I think President Biden should step down,” Haines said.
“I’ve had concerns for a couple of years about Biden’s age. It’s been worse than I expected, the performance,” Griffin said.
“Maybe he should go,” Hostin agreed.
After Biden dropped his re-election bid a few weeks later, his running mate Whoopi Goldberg lashed out at Democrats who pressured him to drop out of the race. “The messages we sent to people over a certain age are scary. We basically said, ‘Hey, you know what? We think that if you’re over a certain age, you don’t really have what it takes to do the job that you do.’

The Bidens appeared on “The View” in May 2025, where Jill jumped in to defend him from several stories about his deteriorating health.
“They’re wrong,” the former president said about the news about his life. “There’s nothing to support that, number one. Number two, you know, think about what we’re left with. We went from a situation where we had an insurgency when I started, not since the Civil War. We had a situation where we were in a situation where we – well, an epidemic, because of the incompetence of the last outfit – ended up killing over a million people.”
“And we are in a situation where we find ourselves unable to deal with many basic problems, which I will not go into in the interest of time,” continued Biden. “So we went to work, we did it and, you know, one of the things that I’m—”

Then Jill stepped in, speaking to Alyssa Farah Griffin, “One of the things I think is that the people who wrote those letters weren’t in the White House with us.”
“And they didn’t see how hard Joe was working every day. I mean, he would wake up, put in a full day, and then at night – I was lying in bed, you know, reading my book, and he was still on the phone, reading his briefs. Working with the staff. I mean, it was endless,” he added.
