Skims founder Emma Grede says mothers should limit baby time to 3 hours

Emma Grede, founder of Skims and CEO of Kim Kardashian and founder of Khloé Kardashian’s Good American, aims to “dispel the myth that women are sold” by parenting as entrepreneurs – suggesting that women spend no more than three hours a day with their children.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal on Saturday, Grede previewed her upcoming book “Start With You: A New Perspective on Work and Life,” which aims to challenge the stereotype of women being too focused on motherhood.
“Women are tired and exhausted,” said Grede. “And to impose on yourself that every waking minute is directed around your children is not a way to live.”

Grede, who has four children, calls herself a “three-hour mom,” spending only three hours with her children from nine to noon on weekends before moving on to “filling” jobs. [her] cup.”
“Cutting sandwiches into star shapes? That was never my thing,” Grede said.
Grede added that she does not participate in what she considers “excessive parenting,” such as reading school emails, and even suggested that some women are better suited to be “two-hour” mothers.
Instead, she encouraged women to focus on creating “high-impact memories, key memories” for big occasions like a weekend getaway. Accordingly, Grede said women should be “out and honest” about their goals in their careers and family life and be willing to stand firm even in trade-offs.

“I have an opinion,” said Grede. “And I’m not giving up.”
Commenting on Fox News Digital, Independent Women’s Forum senior policy and legal analyst Inez Stepman dismissed Grede’s comments, suggesting that public policy should focus beyond the views of the “rich.”
“Many women are not worried about cutting star-shaped sandwiches for their children, but most of the mothers in the study want to be physically present, to be there, when their children are young, the benefit of which is supported by extensive longitudinal research,” said Stepman.
“Instead of catering to the preferences of wealthy merchants, public policy should make it easier for more women to do what they really want to do, which is mother their children in those critical years while maintaining workplace flexibility in adulthood,” Stepman continued.
In 2016, Grede launched the Good American clothing line with Khloé Kardashian and sold over $1 million in merchandise on opening day.

In 2019, she founded the shapewear company Skims alongside her husband, Jens Grede, and Kim Kardashian, which, as of February, is worth an estimated $5 billion.
