There was chaos Tuesday night in Los Angeles when left-wing activists and students interrupted and rebuked a Department of Homeland Security attorney who was speaking to law students at a conservative group event at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

The incident occurred at a speech organized by the Federalist Society’s UCLA chapter, where James Percival, general counsel of DHS, spoke to law students. More than 150 protesters gathered outside the event chanting slogans against the Trump administration, including “No ICE, No KKK, No Fascist USA”

Inside the event, students booed Percival during his speech, and many held obscene signs as he spoke. Another sign read, “F— you lost.” The students also made different noises on their phones as part of the disruption, and in different places, they shouted the word “Nazi.”

This event is complete with questions and answers, most of the disrupters came out to protest.

“Yesterday, DHS General Counsel James Percival came to the UCLA School of Law for an honest discussion and was met with personal attacks, repeated interruptions, and systematic interruptions that prevented him from speaking,” UCLA FedSoc chapter president Matthew Weinberg told Fox News Digital.

“As the President of the UCLA Law Federalist Society and the organizer of the event, I have seen students who come to listen and question the highest official of the state diminish that opportunity. If this is the case for the following law students trying to host a speaker at an American law school in 2026, we are not silent about it.”

After the event was announced, left-leaning campus groups circulated posts and petitions online containing speech described as “threatening.” One of those activist groups was By Any Means Necessary (BAMN), which on its website calls itself a “new immigrant and immigrant rights movement,” and posted a flyer on Instagram promoting a filming event outside the law school.

“UCLA must not provide agents of ICE and the Trump Administration with a base to organize Trump’s campaign of ethnic cleansing in the US and the Middle East,” the flyer said.

“Stop the fascist takeover of the US federal government! Stop Trump’s police state!” said a post on social media.

The UCLE Latine Law Students Association also made a splash at the event.

“Many students at UCLA and UCLA Law have been affected by ICE’s practice of stalking, abducting, and profiling people they suspect are in the United States without authorization, primarily because of race,” the group said, later adding that inviting Percival to speak “undermines the safety of our unauthorized students and harms our communities and harms our students for decades.”

“By giving Mr. Percival a platform, the Federalist Society and UCLA Law legitimize and practice racist policies that harm UCLA students and our community,” the group said.

The video of this incident quickly went viral on social media after it was posted by Yitzy Frankel who recently received a law degree from UCLA and was even noticed by a senior official of the Department of Justice.

“Oh, @UCLA,” DOJ Assistant Attorney General for Human Rights Harmeet Dhillon posted on X. “… Adding to the List…. And the wrong list.”

“Some young punks tried this when I went to speak at the UVA Law FedSoc, but school security cooperated with me in shutting down the distractions during the Q&A,” Dhillon added in another post. “Conservative campus speakers must sadly expect this nonsense, and prepare accordingly.”

“If you don’t discipline this kind of behavior you get more,” Ilya Shapiro of the Manhattan Institute wrote in X. “This is not difficult.”

“So much for ‘diversity of thought’ that the university says ‘values,'” Judicial Network President Carrie Severino wrote in X. “That tolerance does not translate into successive legal arguments. It is difficult to imagine that these students will commit themselves to the rule of law and uphold the independence of the judiciary.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to UCLA for comment.

The incident highlights the ongoing trend of far-left students and activists disrupting conservative events and harassing conservative students on college campuses.

“FIRE’s 2026 college free speech survey shows that 91% of students now self-examine at least some of the time when conversing with their classmates,” wrote Fox News contributor William J. Bennett in a recent Fox News op-ed discussing how conservatives don’t feel comfortable expressing themselves on college campuses. “Israel and Palestine are the most feared topics of open disagreement, just ahead of abortion and transgender rights. At two popular universities, 88% of students now pretend to be more progressive than they really are.”
