John Mellencamp supports daughter every day through stage 4 cancer

Teddi Mellencamp’s father was in the hospital every day during his daughter’s “bad” cancer battle.
In an interview with Fox News Digital at the Women’s Cancer Research Fund, “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” alum opened up about Mellencamp’s bond and how her diagnosis forced a new level of vulnerability and intimacy between father and daughter.
“He was there with me at the hospital every day. So, I mean, he saw the good, the bad, and the ugly. Um, but I talk to him—I mean, he calls every day to check in,” Teddi began. “It’s a tough journey, and especially when you’re in treatment. I thought the surgery would be the hardest part, but it’s the treatment that’s been really tough for me.”

Teddi shared that her diagnosis brought her closer to her famous father, John.

“Oh, right. I found ways to be vulnerable with him that I never thought I needed and I mean, having cancer changes you,” he said. “And I never believed that and now, it’s just… my priorities have completely changed.”
“He was there with me in the hospital every day.”
Marking one year since being rushed to the ER due to “migraines,” the reality star took to Instagram in February to share a photo of herself with electrodes placed on her head before a brain scan.

“A while ago today I walked into the ER thinking I was having migraines and within 24 hours I was in surgery for plum-size stage 4 tumors in my brain,” Mellencamp wrote.

“I have a lot of anxiety around me today but also a lot of gratitude. I am very grateful to the doctors and nurses who took care of me, I am grateful to my family and friends for their support, and I am grateful for all the love you have showered on me,” said his post. “Trust your gut. Check yourself.”

Mellencamp emphasized the importance of early detection during her interview with Fox News Digital.

“I think you just, you know, I … for over a year I thought I had migraines, and it was brain cancer. So, I think, you know, you just have to trust your instincts and go to the doctor. You know, we’re not experts, so if you feel something that doesn’t feel right, take action,” he said.

Teddy first shared that he was diagnosed with Stage 2 melanoma in March 2022, and in April 2025 he shared his skin cancer diagnosis. he grew up to stage 4 and that it had spread to his brain and lungs. He underwent surgery to remove tumors from his brain, and when he was removed, the doctors found more.

Later that month, tests showed that her tumors were shrinking in size. One of the many debilitating effects of his cancer journey was his inability to speak clearly.
