Comedian Judy Gold praised New York Comedy Club staff for quickly removing a heckler who shouted “Judas” at her while on stage.
“It’s come to this: Antisemites are no longer ashamed even on the Upper West Side. I’m so thankful for the class act @jlynnpic and the rest of the @nycomedyclub staff for acting so quickly and doing the right thing,” Gold wrote Monday on X.
He uploaded a video of the incident showing him when he was fighting with a heckler. He called her “boring,” and she responded, “You’re a Jew!”
A few seconds passed in silence as Gold tried to confirm what the heckler was saying before another shouted, “Fire him!”

Just as Gold was ready to continue his set, people in the audience could be heard saying, “Bye,” as the heckler may have been removed from the venue.
“The fact that @jlynnpicc and the staff at @nycomedyclub quickly escorted this antisemitic a-hole out of the club is very culturally significant,” one user named @LisaKeshet commented below Gold’s post.
“When antisemitism becomes publicly acceptable, it is a sign that Jews are no longer safe in that society.”

The incident sparked a conversation about the use of the word “Jew.” Although opinions differ between people, they are generally accepted when used as a noun, except in a derogatory context.
Authoritative Jewish and Holocaust institutions use “Jew” as a neutral descriptor in official definitions. Experts say the word is offensive when used disparagingly or in unnatural, degrading or conspiratorial ways.
In its “Antisemitism Uncovered” series, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) writes that, while anti-Semitism can escalate to violence, it often appears in “subtle ways, such as unsympathetic remarks, or negative stereotypes that cannot be challenged.”
This risks normalizing seemingly innocent forms of hate-based discrimination, the organization continues.
“This is what reinforces dangerous social attitudes, which can destroy values and even a just society. Silence and indifference in the face of biased words or actions allows others to internalize harmful messages, normalizing such messages. Antisemitism is unique in many ways, but, like other forms of hatred, it grows in silence and blossoms with acceptance.”
