Retired journalists pretending to be after leaving corporate media

NEWNow you can listen to Fox News articles!
CBS News reporter Scott MacFarlane announced Monday that he is joining the left-leaning media company MeidasTouch.
MeidasTouch, originally founded as a political committee designed to attack President Donald Trump in 2020, is far from traditional journalism. MacFarlane’s dismissal of CBS News’ MeidasTouch led to a backlash suggesting the move is the latest example of why many believe the legacy news organizations have a clear liberal bias.
But MacFarlane isn’t the first legacy journalist to come out on the left once they’ve broken free from the shackles of corporate America. Here are some former journalists who have followed a similar path:

Terry Moran

Moran, who spent nearly 28 years at ABC News, interviewed Trump in the Oval Office in April 2025. This prestigious assignment marked the president’s 100th day in office, and, most likely, he would not have gone to a reporter who showed contempt for the president.
Just six weeks later, Moran was let go by the Disney-owned network after posting social media attacks on Trump and White House aide Stephen Miller. He immediately launched Substack and declared that legacy media organizations are “failing the American people” because corporate executives are afraid of the president.
Moran’s independent work has been hard-nosed, often critical of Trump and his allies. He suggested that House Speaker Mike Johnson is “worse than the child abuser Hastert” and that “Trump is the lowest man his entire life has shown.” He also rolled out the red carpet for Trump-hating guests, interviewing liberal darlings like Stacey Abrams and former GOPers like Rick Wilson, Adam Kinzinger and Miles Taylor.

Katie Couric

Couric, a longtime host of NBC’s “Today” and later anchor of the “CBS Evening News,” has largely left straight news journalism on the back burner in recent years.
“America’s Sweetheart” founded Katie Couric Media in 2017 and has allowed her true feelings about politics to come out. In 2021, Couric faced backlash from conservatives for suggesting that Trump supporters should be “de-programmed” following the events of Jan. 6. He also called for Trump to be impeached.
In 2023, Couric was asked at the Texas Tribune Festival about her embrace of social causes in recent years, such as abortion rights and gun control.
“I feel more comfortable,” Couric said. “I think for a long time I had to appeal to these crowds, you know, on ‘The Today Show.’ And I think all of us, especially women, put ourselves into that, you know, we want to be attractive. And I think at some point in my career, I realized that not everyone is going to like me. ”
KATIE COURIC SURPRISED HER FREESTANDING IN BROADCASTING YEARS: ‘I’M NOT FOR EVERYBODY’
He recalled one time at a donut shop in Nantucket where he saw someone wearing a shirt that read, “I’m not everybody.”
“And I was like, ‘I want that shirt,'” Couric said. “So I got home, Googled it and ordered that shirt.”
“I mean, sometimes, I think I’m a big believer in reproductive rights. I think they’re the foundation of equal rights for women. And I felt an obligation to say that,” she continues. “Also, you know, I feel very strongly about reducing gun violence in this country. I’ve covered too many school shootings, too many mass shootings. You know, nothing happened after Sandy Hook… And I think, you know, 74% of the NRA members want stricter gun laws. And the fact that we can’t do it because we’re held by these extremist women.”
Don Lemon

Don Lemon did not hide his party stripes when he was the first presenter of CNN, but he was always billed by the network as a straight news anchor despite the fact that he compared Trump supporters to members of the Ku Klux Klan, defended Antifa and was angry with people who were not vaccinated against the coronavirus “taking up space” in hospitals.
After 17 years with the network, CNN severed ties with Lemon in 2023 after receiving punishment that Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley had passed on her “speech.” Now, as a freelance journalist, Lemon has fully embraced his liberal personality with anti-Trump comments.
DON LEMON DEFIES AFTER NOT GUILTY IN MINNESOTA COURT, VOWS ‘HE WILL NOT BE AFRAID’
The former anchor has been in the spotlight in recent weeks in a legal battle with Trump’s Justice Department.
Lemon went viral in January by live-streaming a Minnesota church breakout by far-left anti-ICE activists. He insisted that he was working as a journalist covering the disrupted church service, but the DOJ believes that this is not the case, he joined other protesters and charged them with conspiracy to deprive them of religious freedom rights and violation of the FACE Act.
He denies the charge and has used the incident to continue to attack the Trump administration.
Jim Acosta

Jim Acosta was a thorn in Trump’s side when he worked as CNN’s White House correspondent during the president’s first term. Like Lemon, Acosta was also accused by conservatives of having a liberal bias during his tenure at CNN.
When he left the network in January 2025, Acosta used his farewell monologue to deliver a message about the state of journalism.
“Don’t allow lies. Don’t allow fear. Hold on to truth, and hope,” said the anchor. “Even if you have to take out your phone, record that message. I won’t lie. I won’t allow fear,” he continued. “Post it on social media, so people can hear from you.”
Acosta now has a daily YouTube show that regularly features Trump foes Rosie O’Donnell, Kathy Griffin and left-wing podcast host Jennifer Welch.
White House slams JIM ACOSTA ‘AS A DISGUSTING PERSON’ AFTER HE MESSED ABOUT TRUMP’S DEAD WIFE.
He raised eyebrows during his push for gun control by releasing an interview with an AI avatar of Parkland shooting victim Joaquin Oliver. Acosta also donned a frog hat in “Swamp State,” a parody of Trump’s State of the Union address last month, which was streamed live on Acosta’s YouTube channel.
Last year, Acosta angered the White House with a joke about the burial site of the president’s first wife Ivana Trump, the mother of Trump’s older children Don Jr., Ivanka and Eric.
“How many immigrants are married? He has one buried on his golf course in New Jersey! Is he not buried on the first hole or the second tee or something like that? Immigrants always do jobs that Americans don’t want to do,” said Acosta about Ivana, who is buried at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster.
White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt called Acosta “a disgrace” in a statement sent to Fox News Digital.
