RFK Jr. shared a video of rescuing a rattlesnake after a snake handling setback

Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. shared another video of himself holding snakes on Wednesday after social media users expressed concern about his encounters with black race snakes.

Kennedy Jr. posted an Instagram video with the caption, “In response to the many comments about venomous snakes, this video shows how Cheryl and I handled a recent rattlesnake rescue.”

The clip begins with Kennedy Jr. sitting in his office before someone informed him about a snake on the way.

“Hold on, guys, I’ll be right back,” he said, taking a bucket and a small net and going outside.

The HHS secretary then carefully collects the rattlesnake as onlookers react with surprise.

After putting the snake in the bucket, Kennedy Jr. later nails it behind the head and holds it up to the camera while explaining how to identify the reptile.

“His middle teeth, I don’t want to touch them,” she said. “This is a beautiful snake. A Western Diamondback. You can tell by the rings on the end of its tail.”

Kennedy Jr. then asked his wife, actress Cheryl Hines, to bring him a pillowcase before transporting and releasing the snake back into the wild.

The Instagram post appeared to be a direct response to the criticism and concern caused by another Kennedy Jr. snake video. shared on Tuesday in X.

In that clip, Kennedy Jr. held two black snakes of the North American race in his hands while visiting Dr. Mehmet Oz as Hines watches in horror.

“Darling, darling… why?” Hines shouted as Kennedy Jr. closing the snakes in the corner.

Kennedy Jr. then threw himself at the reptiles and finally picked them both up by their tails as they repeatedly bit his hands.

“Black snakes, they bite me,” Kennedy Jr said with a smile.

The snakes continued to beat on his hands as Hines pleaded, “Bobby, please! Bobby, Bobby, please,” before later telling him, “Don’t be a nut.”

Kennedy Jr. later posted a video to X with the caption, “Cheryl leads Black Racers release on Dr. Oz’s porch.”

According to the Florida Museum of Natural History, black snakes are harmless and generally harmless to humans, although they will “bite readily in self-defense.”

An earlier video showed Kennedy Jr. holding non-venomous snakes, while Wednesday’s Instagram clip focused on a venomous Western Diamondback snake, prompting some social media users to question whether the HHS secretary was taking unnecessary risks.
