All four Democrats on the House Administration Committee voted against moving forward with a measure to approve land on the National Mall to build the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum.
The measure cleared the committee on a 7-4 party line vote, said the bill’s sponsor, Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, RN.Y..
Malliotakis, who does not sit on the committee, said in an email to X that Democrats oppose an amendment to ensure that the museum honors only natural women.
“Democrats on the House Administration Committee just voted against my bill to build a Women’s History Museum on the National Mall because an amendment was passed to ensure that only natural women are shown. What a way to celebrate #WomensHistoryMonth!” Malliotakis said in the post.

Her post included a screenshot of the law’s text, which reads, “The museum shall be dedicated to preserving, researching, and presenting the history, achievements, and lived experiences of biological women in the United States” and that “The museum may not identify, present, describe, or portray any biological male as female.”
The four Democrats on the committee include Rep. Joe Morelle of New York, and Reps. Terri Sewell of Alabama, Norma Torres, of California, and Julie Johnson of Texas, the committee’s website said.
The bill originally had 231 cosponsors, including Johnson and Sewell, two of the committee’s Democrats who voted against moving the measure forward.
Morelle criticized Republicans in a statement obtained by Fox News Digital, saying they have put “ideological poison pills” into the proposal.
“A majority of Republicans took a Republican-led, bipartisan bill with 230 co-sponsors, and at the last minute, changed it to give President Trump unchecked authority to choose the location of the museum, control its design and build boards that are now full of political loyalists, leaving a sister museum that honors American Latinos, and injecting pills to create political poison,” Morena said. in the statement.

“The star of the Epstein files and the Access Hollywood tape is the last person who should be given the keys to a museum that celebrates American women,” he added.
Sharing Malliotakis’ post, President Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump commented, “This is crazy, but not surprising to Democrats.” He also included a clown emoji in his tweet.
Former college swimmer Riley Gaines, who strongly opposes allowing natural men to compete in women’s sports, wrote in a post on X, “The Women’s History Museum is one step closer to the National Mall. It came out of committee, BUT only along party lines after an amendment was added to ensure it honors real women, not men who identify as women. Yes, that’s where the 22 debate comes in.”
