Rob Stewart has been criticized by fans for coming out to attend Scotland’s FIFA World Cup match in Boston less than a day after the rock star canceled a concert in California due to health issues.

On Friday night, the 81-year-old singer canceled his scheduled concert at the North Island Credit Union Amphitheater in Chula Vista, California near San Diego 40 minutes before the start of the show.

In a statement sent by the San Diego Union-Tribune, the event’s producer, Live Nation, explained that the concert was canceled because Stewart suffered from a sinus infection again. However, Stewart’s team later told the outlet that the Grammy winner was suffering from a severe respiratory infection that led to laryngitis.

Stewart apologized for the removal of the posts he shared on his Instagram stories on Friday night, including a photo of him on an empty Chula Vista stage while band members crashed the concert next to him.

“Well, I’m in beautiful Chula Vista as the stage is lowered next to me. Following treatment, I’m feeling much better, but my voice isn’t there,” he wrote, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

“I am very disappointed and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience to my fans. I did everything I could to make the show happen tonight, but unfortunately it didn’t happen. I will do my best to reschedule.”

On Saturday, Stewart shared a video of himself on his private jet with his sons Liam, 31, and Alastair, 20.

In this clip, Stewart, who has been a long-time supporter of the Scottish national football team, noted that the game was the first time it had appeared in the World Cup since 1998.

“It’s been 28 years, so these children, I’ve told them about them but they never did,” he said. “I have been to seven World Cups.”

“So we want them to go through to the next round and I’ll die a happy man,” Stewart added with a smile. “That would be great. C’mon Scotland!”

Stewart ended the clip by dancing in his seat and joining Liam and Alastair as they repeatedly chanted “No Scotland, no party!”

However, Stewart’s video and appearance on the show sparked controversy with some fans expressing their anger in the comments section of his post.

“This sounds ridiculous, especially after you canceled last night. You’re too sick to play but it’s okay to fly across the country for football?” wrote one Instagram user.

“So you beat all the people in San Diego who wanted to see you in concert but were able to go to the world cup I see! I’m a big fan of yours but I don’t think that’s good,” added another.

ROD STEWART ‘HAS NO DESIRE TO RETIRE’ DESPITE ANNOUNCING QUARRY TOUR

“I understand that shows sometimes have to be canceled, and if there was a good reason, most fans would accept it,” said one fan. “What’s hard to accept is seeing him celebrating on a plane with friends less than 24 hours after thousands of people went home disappointed in San Diego.”

“Many traveled long distances, paid for hotels, parking, tickets, and took time off from work to be there,” the social media user continued. “Then seeing you fly across the country for a football game the next morning makes the situation feel even more unheard of. The cancellation was frustrating enough, but this seems like an incredible turn off to the fans who support your work. Sympathy and awareness would have gone a long way.”

However, others defended Stewart, noting that his illness affected his voice, not necessarily his ability to walk.

“Hold on people,” wrote one fan. “I know it’s disappointing and disappointing when someone cancels a show but that doesn’t mean that his life especially with his family is at a standstill. You can clearly hear in this video that he’s not feeling well because of his voice and people said he was not feeling well in previous concerts. I’ve been a fan of Rod’s all my life and I wouldn’t want him to act if it could cause irreparable damage to his voice!!

“There’s a difference between watching a game and playing for two hours. Just saying,” commented another.
