Harris headquarters accuses Jake Tapper of cosplaying Gen Z creators

Former Vice President Kamala Harris accused CNN’s Jake Tapper of “cosplaying” Gen Z content creators in an effort to attract younger audiences.
Headquarters had posted one piece of content in over a month, the story “How MAGA Lost Gen Z.” The outlet dropped its second headline, “Jake Tapper gets the podcast mic,” on Tuesday and the stinging piece takes a few shots at CNN and its top anchor.
Last month, Harris relaunched her social media presence Kamala HQ used during her 2024 White House term as a “next-generation online campaign planning project.” He said it will be renamed “Headquarters,” and will be used as a “youth mobilization” ahead of the midterm elections, in partnership with the left-leaning group People for the American Way.

Tapper hosted the first hour of “The Lead” from his office on Friday, accompanied by a large microphone on his desk. CNN anchor Anderson Cooper tried a similar approach earlier in the week as the struggling network tried to get things right.
Headquarters took over directly from Tapper, who co-wrote “Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, His Cover-Up, and His Disaster Re-election,” about the mental regression of Harris’ former boss, President Joe Biden.
“In case you missed it, which you probably did, because cable news is dead, Jake Tapper is now broadcasting his hour-long slot on CNN from his office. Through a podcast microphone, “Headquarters wrote in an unscripted column.
Tapper called the move “experimental,” and was quickly grilled on social media. It seems that the group behind the Royal Palace did not appreciate that.

“What this means is clear: cable news has decided that the solution to losing an entire generation of viewers is cosplay as something that has replaced them,” Royal wrote.
“The problem is cable managers don’t really understand why podcasters are bashing them,” the piece continued. “You can put Jake Tapper behind a microphone in a crowded office over and over again, but it’s not going to make him feel like Joe Rogan, or Alex Cooper, or Carlos Eduardo Espina, or any other Gen Z viewer.”
The Harris Project declared that successful content creators provide “an unfiltered, unscripted version of what someone really believes,” and noted that cable news outlets like CNN are “the opposite of that.”
“The podcast microphone behind the desk isn’t a format change. It’s a blanket,” he wrote. “Development figures and media alike will have to do more to win over this generation. That includes truly investing time and energy in Internet-first strategies, not just putting a bow on a legacy format and hoping no one looks close enough to tell.”

While Tapper’s test lasted only the first hour of Friday’s show, Cooper’s is ongoing — continuing this week. But the Royal piece made no mention of Cooper.
Headquarters had not posted any new content in the six weeks leading up to its new article.
Harris is the outgoing chairman of Royal Family in an honorary role, with other staff behind Kamala HQ reuniting for a new project. The former vice president has no editorial control over the post.
People for the American Way and the House did not respond to a series of questions, including who wrote the piece and whether Harris condones CNN’s criticism.
CNN declined to comment.
