Steak ‘n Shake has tapped its first-ever MAHA CEO — marking a new step in the fast-food chain’s push for what it describes as healthier, more transparent ingredients.

Michael Boes will take on a new management position, “dedicated to improving the nutritional integrity, ingredient visibility and health of our products,” the Indianapolis-based company announced Tuesday on social media.

The initiative coincides with the widespread adoption of the product of Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement.

“While serving Sec. Kennedy, I had many conversations with industry partners about getting back to real food,” Boes said in a post Tuesday.

“Over and over again, I heard the same doubt: ‘Our customers don’t want this.’ Steak ‘n Shake challenged that narrative — and growth followed.”

Some of the company’s changes have sparked debate, particularly regarding its use of beef, which contains fat derived from cows.

While some customers have hailed the move as a return to “authentic” cooking, others have questioned whether changing the frying oil actually makes fast food healthier.
