“75% of the Olympians who compete for Team USA have played as college athletes. If we don’t understand this, we won’t have many Olympic teams because you have so many of these sports, especially some sports where it’s like the minor leagues, you can call it the big leagues, you can call it whatever you want, but we’re training unbelievable athletes to win a gold medal on Tuesday.
“Without college sports, without your ability to go into college sports and compete and learn how to play and get better, we’re not going to have a great Olympic team.”
Trump made the remarks while honoring the NCAA champion Youngstown State bowling, Oklahoma State men’s golf, Texas A&M women’s volleyball, Wake Forest men’s tennis, Georgia women’s tennis, West Virginia shot put and Florida State women’s soccer teams.
Trump even made a rare admission of a skill he’s not good at during a White House event.
Trump, while paying tribute to the bowling champions at Youngstown State, admitted that he is not a great skater.
“It’s not easy to throw the ball, I’ve tried it, it doesn’t work well for me. It’s very difficult, actually. It’s very difficult,” Trump said.
