A Cape Air flight was forced to return to Nantucket, Massachusetts, on Monday shortly after takeoff when part of its cabin door blew open.
The small plane had just taken off from Nantucket Memorial Airport (ACK) and was on its way to Boston when the incident occurred, according to the Nantucket Current news agency.
An Instagram video recorded by a passenger on board shows the top of the main cabin door opening slightly mid-flight – with many commentators witnessing the incident.

Despite what happened, the plane remained stable and continued to operate normally.

The passengers were later transferred to another flight to complete their journey to Boston, with many praising the pilot for staying calm under pressure.
“The pilot was amazing,” a passenger told the Current. “The pilot didn’t panic but brought us back to the island to land. He probably went 6 to 8 minutes with the door open.”

The airline has confirmed the incident to a local station.

“The aircraft was in a stable position and operating normally. The flight crew returned to ACK, and the aircraft landed safely without incident,” the airline said in a statement.
That plane has been taken out of service as the company investigates what caused the issue.

Fox News Digital previously reported on another airline situation that caused disruption.
A Delta flight at Pittsburgh International was left waiting on the tarmac after a flight attendant accidentally activated the plane’s emergency slide – delaying passengers.
The mistake required maintenance crews to remove the slide before passengers could safely exit. Such incidents can cost airlines tens of thousands of dollars.
