A major US city is warning commuters about large crowds during certain summer events

If the daily commute this summer is already causing panic, officials in the metropolitan area have a stark warning for people in 2026: Stay home.
Especially on certain days.
Leaders in New York and New Jersey are warning commuters of heavy traffic during the World Cup games in June and July. NJ Transit says only 40,000 round-trip tickets from Penn Station in Midtown Manhattan to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, will be sold per game, greatly reducing capacity.
Cost may also be a concern. NJ Transit is slated to charge $150 for a round-trip train ride between Penn Station and the Meadowlands during the games — instead of the regular fare of $12.90, which is a temporary high.

“If you’re not coming to some of the events, please, if possible, work from home because the city is going to be incredibly crowded and so is New Jersey,” said Kathryn Garcia, executive director of the Port Authority, at a recent news conference.
“I would also encourage anyone to take a rideshare.

“We will do more to communicate with people coming to our airport to make sure they know about illegal taxis, but also those in the city. We encourage you to use public transportation if you can,” added Garcia.

The advice comes as transportation officials are concerned about crowds as MetLife Stadium hosts multiple games, including the finals.
“Going back and forth is going to be tough,” Garcia said.

“To reduce congestion and ensure safety, there will be no spectator parking in the stadium area on game days,” according to the NJ Transit website.
“Access to the stadium will be limited to … official transportation options, and no private or charter bus operators will provide game day service. Fans are strongly encouraged to plan ahead, purchase transportation in advance and follow official guidance.”
