A Massachusetts mother accused of strangling her two children fled to Vermont

The arrest affidavit of a Wellesley, Miss., mother accused of killing her two children in their suburban home reveals harrowing details about the alleged murder.
Janette MacAusland, 49, is accused of killing her two children, Kai, 7, and Ella, 6, in their home last Friday before fleeing to Vermont.
The affidavit states that MacAusland appeared at his aunt’s house depressed.

A PRETTY BOSTON MOTHER IS ACCUSED OF KILLING TWO CHILDREN DURING AN ARRIVAL.
“He was upset. I brought him into my house. He was knocking on the window to get my attention and I saw that he had a big wound on his throat,” said his aunt. “After he calmed down and looked at her neck and saw that the blood was dry, Janette said she tried to kill herself. I asked where her husband was and he said he was at the lake.”

“I wanted the three of us to go to God, but to no avail,” MacAusland told her aunt, according to the affidavit.
MacAusland’s aunt told police that her nephew said he killed Kai and Ella and then tried to kill himself. The affidavit says MacAusland told his aunt he planned to jump off the bridge, but couldn’t.

Later, police spoke to MacAusland and asked if her children were OK. He answered by shaking his head according to the affidavit. He then revealed shocking information to the police.
“I strangled them and then I tried to kill them,” he told them, adding that the children could be found in his bed at his home in Massachusetts.

The affidavit says Wellesley police were called, confirming what MacAusland told them.
MacAusland was arrested in Vermont on a fugitive from justice charge and appeared before a judge Monday afternoon. He was charged in Massachusetts over the weekend with two counts of murder.

At Monday’s hearing, he waived his extradition rights, and will be extradited to his home country to face those charges.
