Caitlin Clark says ‘I honestly could have gotten a few more calls’ early in the Fever season

Caitlin Clark returned from injury in the WNBA on Saturday, but had to deal with a loss.
Clark’s Indiana Fever fell 107-104 to the Dallas Wings in their season opener, as Clark missed two late shots that would have tied the game.
After the game, Clark appeared to suggest that some fouls were not called on him throughout the game.

“I think especially if they’re going to call it the way they’re going to call it this year, I think honestly I could get a few more calls from a few of them, but that’s OK,” Clark told reporters after the game when asked about the plays while driving to the basket on Saturday.
The refereeing of Clark has been a point of contention since she entered the WNBA in 2024, and many fans complained that Clark was constantly being targeted by opposing players, and the referees were not doing enough to protect her.
Clark herself made other comments that appeared to be directed at referees in the WNBA.
During the WNBA postseason in September, when Clark was injured, she said she was fined $200 for tweeting “Refs couldn’t stop us” after Indiana’s Game 2 win over Atlanta in the first round.
“Fined $200 for this lol,” he wrote on X, adding a series of laughing emojis. “BENCH MOB WILL BE VERY ROWDY TOMORROW LETS GOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Previously, Clark was seen getting into a disagreement with the referee when they played against the Connecticut Sun last July.
“Are you playing with me?” Clark was seen saying as Fever assistant Briann January dragged him to the bench.
As the officials continued to check the play, the ESPN broadcaster showed Clark yelling at the officials again.
“That’s just disrespectful, Khula” “Oh! “Come here, come. It’s unbelievable.”
His coach and teammates have said the same thing.
After a the no-call argument during a game featuring Caitlin Clark last May against the New York Liberty, Fever coach Stephanie White criticized the WNBA referees for their officiating.
“I thought he was played badly. I think it’s been a lot worse for us the last few games,” White said of Clark. “The lack of respect right now from our team was unbelievable. So, it’s disappointing, you know, that it doesn’t go both ways, or it didn’t go both ways.”

Fever star Sophie Cunningham also called out the referees’ handling of Clark to reporters last June, after the altercation with the Sun.
“At that time, it was part of the game. I think the refs had a lot to do with that. It was a build up for a few years now that they weren’t protecting the star player of the WNBA,” Cunningham said. “At the end of the day I’m going to protect my teammates. That’s what I do.”
