Carly Pearce looks back on the risks she took during her career.
In a recent interview with Fox News Digital, the 36-year-old country singer discussed the release of her fifth studio album, “Honest Woman,” which she collaborated with longtime collaborator Ben West.
He also admitted that he likes to “mess” with people on the internet, especially when it comes to the lyrics of his song.
“I think the song that probably scared everyone was ‘Church Girl’,” he said. “Anytime you talk about religion or… Sex, drugs, drinking, homosexuality and Jesus all in one sentence, that’s a lot.”

While it may be “a lot” for his fans, Pearce explained that he “thinks it’s important” to put his “flag on the ground for things that are important to me,” adding that doing so “makes me proud.”

Throughout his career, the “truck on fire” singer has won a Grammy Award, three CMA Awards and four ACM Awards, and has released four studio albums, but he says his upcoming fifth album must be in danger.
He explained that he “challenged myself to be more honest and vulnerable and real than ever before” when writing the album, noting that it “felt personal and felt like a return to form for me.”
“The song ‘Dream Come True’ was the first song I wrote on this album, and I remember when I wrote that song, I didn’t even know I had to write that song, but I was in a place where I really needed that song,” he said. “And I think that song in particular opened my eyes to what needed to happen to make this record, what I needed to keep searching for and finding myself.”

When comparing “Honest Woman” to her third studio album, “29,” Pearce called the two “cousins” and “friends,” admitting, “you can’t have one without the other.”

“And it feels like the best season of my life. And it feels right,” he said. “I think what I’ve learned more than anything else, and I’ve played so many venues, big and small – people come to my shows to tell stories and sing. They don’t come for a show. So I wanted to honor this album that’s really based on storytelling and singing.”

In addition to being his most vulnerable album yet, it also features collaborations from other top country artists, including Dan Tyminski, Molly Tuttle and Riley Green, who he called “a great storyteller.”
“He’s such a great storyteller and musician that I really wanted to be a part of that. I think. I was so inspired by his ability to captivate a sold-out venue as he and his guitar sang a song about his grandfather,” he said of Green. “That’s amazing that real music can move people like that. And I think he’s the only person for this song because it needed that kind of artistry to sit in the stadium in the seats and sing the song and people love it.”
