Conservatives criticize Obama for seeking an unknown motive in the WHCD shooting

Former President Barack Obama caused an internet firestorm over the weekend after his X message about the “intention” of the shooter at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner went viral.

“While we still do not have details about the reasons for last night’s shooting at the White House Correspondents Dinner, it is up to all of us to reject the idea that violence has no place in our democracy,” Obama said. posted on X On Sunday evening, nearly 24 hours after President Trump and senior officials were evacuated from the Washington Hilton Hotel when a gunman opened fire on security during the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner.

“And it’s a sobering reminder of the courage and sacrifice that US Secret Service Agents show every day. I’m thankful for them — and I’m thankful that the agent who was shot will be OK.”

This photo of Obama has been viewed approximately 52 million times and has angered conservative supporters who point to the scroll left by the shooter and other details of the attack that they say show that the intention was to harm Trump and his Cabinet.

“Let’s not pretend to be clueless about intent, @BarackObama,” EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin posted on X. “The assassin released an anti-Trump manifesto about wanting to kill Trump officials, minutes before attempting to raid a compound full of the President, VP, Cabinet and many others in his Admin.”

“This is a lie—the gunman’s manifesto was published six hours ago,” political analyst Batya Ungar-Sargon wrote in X. “But it’s also an admission—an admission that the motive is bad on President Obama’s part, hence the need to lie.”

Authorities have identified Cole Allen, 31, a California resident, as the suspect who allegedly opened fire at the annual event attended by Trump and senior administration officials. Federal the law law enforcement officials confirmed to Fox News Digital that after Allen’s arrest, he said he intended to target Trump administration officials and had prepared a manifesto outlining his intentions, while sharing anti-Trump and anti-Christian rhetoric on social media.

US Attorney for District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro told reporters at a press conference after the incident that Allen was charged with two counts of using a firearm during an act of violence and assaulting a police officer with a deadly weapon. Pirro also said that more charges are expected to be filed.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Obama’s office for comment.
