Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville and his podcast host Al Hunt denounced the recent New York winner as part of a movement they say is not part of the Democratic Party.
Democratic Socialist candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier was one of three supporters of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani who won a landslide victory in New York on Tuesday. Hunt suggested on Thursday’s episode of “Politics War Room” that they may be “wrangling the political question of victory in November.”
Carville and Hunt acknowledged that Republicans are overplaying the trio as representing the Democratic Party in some way or its future trajectory, but still called for a clear firewall to keep them out, citing a New York Times report.
“I’ve got this quote here, I’m going to get to it. You attacked interracial relationships and the American flag. Lady, I’m not in the same party as you. I’m sorry,” Carville said. “I’m just not, and I actually think it’s time for Democrats to say the ‘S-word.’ ‘Separation.’ I really do.”

Everyone is always saying, No, no, we are allies. We’re a big tent,” he said. “And there are others – there’s just some s— I can’t live in the same tent with.”
Carville suggested that many new far-left candidates don’t really like the Democratic Party, but are running as Democrats anyway, and suggested, “Let’s negotiate terms of separation here. Maybe we can separate under some kind of mutually beneficial terms, but I’m done. And I’m not in that f—ing political party.”
He further explained, “I’m completely comfortable with a political party that spends time questioning the policies of the Israeli government. In fact, I admire that. I don’t want to be in a political party that denies the right of the state of Israel to exist. That’s not – I just can’t do that. I’m sorry. It’s just not happening.”
“They’re a good gift for Donald Trump,” Hunt replied, suggesting it would be beneficial if other Democrats stood up. “Of course people like Obama, but also some of the younger Democrats and they say, ‘This is not us.’

Hunt also pointed out that if the Democrats don’t get a big victory in November, “that group of crazy people” will be able to “destroy Hakeem Jeffries in every possible way.”
When he said that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, DN.Y., caused trouble for Democrats early in her career, arguing that she eventually became a good member. However, Hunt warned, “I don’t think this team has that ability.
“I don’t know either,” Carville admitted. “And I think the AOC is brilliant. I can be in the same party with her in many ways. I can’t be in the same party with Miss Chevalier. I can’t do it. I’m sorry.”
