The No. 11 Texas Longhorns’ Cinderella story in the NCAA tournament came to a sad end Thursday night, as Trey Kaufman-Renn’s tip-in with 0.7 seconds left on the clock gave No.

It was fun until the end in this Sweet 16 game between a team that needed to play in the First Four to start this tournament, and one of the top moments in March Madness.

Dailyn Swain of the Longhorns made a clutch and-one layup with 11 seconds left to tie the game at 77 apiece on his free throws. He nailed it with pressure, but the Boilermakers had 11 seconds to get up the court and win the game.

It was Braden Smith finding his way to the lane and setting himself up. However, the ball did not have the right English on the glass, as it started to roll off the line.

But Kaufman-Renn, who got down to the basket, missed the game-winning bucket, scoring 20 points to help Purdue advance and keep their championship dreams alive.

There was talk on social media, however, as Kaufman-Renn’s shot showed that something might have gone wrong, as he hooked the arm of a Longhorns player scrambling for a rebound.

Either way, the whistle didn’t blow, and the Boilermakers were celebrating, while the Longhorns couldn’t believe their season ended that way.

This was a back-and-forth game for the entire 40 minutes on the pitch, as both teams found each other on top, especially in the second half. The biggest lead of any team was Purdue by just seven points, while Texas’ lead was never more than four.

But that’s because both teams were shooting well, with Texas making 52% of its shots (29-of-56), and Purdue hitting 48% (30-of-62).

Taking a closer look at the box, every starter for the Boilermakers had at least 10 points, while Fletcher Loyer (18), and Braden Smith (16) did important work in the backcourt to help the winning cause.

Meanwhile, Texas’ Tramon Mark left it all off the court, shooting 11-of-15 for 29 points, including 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. Swain also just missed a double-double with nine rebounds, while dishing out five assists.
