Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini’s relationship turns Patriots’ Mother’s Day post into chaos

Mother’s Day is a holiday dedicated to honoring and celebrating mothers, motherhood and the influence of mother figures in America, and almost every NFL team has paid tribute to the day on social media, including the New England Patriots.
That’s when things went sideways.
The Patriots posted their Mother’s Day shoutout at 10 a.m. ET and within minutes everyone understood that social media still remembered that head coach Mike Vrabel, who is married to his wife and mother of their two children, allegedly had a questionable, dysfunctional relationship with NFL reporter Dianna Russini, who is also married and a mother of two.

So what followed was a reaction. It was full of snark, disgust, vitriol and maybe some truth. And it came to the public forum.
This sounds like the Patriots are asking people to remove them. As one reply made a point, it felt like people were rushing each other in the comment section of the post.

People posted AI-generated photos of Vrabel and Russini together on boats, and holding children who looked like a big coach. They sent messages to the group’s communications team, advising that perhaps they should have skipped the document altogether.

Some have even called for the NFL to intervene, as if the league will advise the social media manager to, soon.
None of this should surprise us. People slow down to see fatal accidents on the highway all the time.
And they flock to people who hurt their lives on social media. (They also flock when an account with 4.4 million followers appears to be stepping on a landmine).
This is where some people will ask the obvious question: What should the Patriots do?
Should they not send a Mother’s Day greeting, thus allowing the episode to set them apart from all the other groups?
There is no 100% answer to the question. Perhaps turning off replies would be a step, although that would draw attention.
Regardless of the response from the Patriots, they should understand that Sunday brought a strong brand.

We can see that the relationship between the coach and the journalist will not end soon, which has not been admitted to be wrong, or out of bounds, or adultery as many have thought.
It may not even end early in the NFL season, barring the end of a scandal — like Vrabel’s resignation or firing, or someone telling the truth about what really happened.

So the Patriots as an organization should see this red letter stick right now. And it’s not just in their head coach, but rather it’s pinned on the entire organization.
The Patriots should remember that there are 31 other NFL fan bases, and those people didn’t just let New England’s past scandals like Spygate or Deflategate go. To this day, those scandals are coming up even though they have been around for a long time.

This one wound, still fresh and probably still bleeding, will be a thing for a while.
The Patriots got a reminder of that Sunday.
