Former Democratic Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel explained why he thinks the Democratic Party has lost touch with voters during a podcast interview Saturday.

Emanuel, considered a potential Democratic Alliance presidential candidate in 2028, has called on his party in recent years to divide voters by talking down to them and fixing political issues.

“We’ve lost the plot,” he said in a clip shown on social media from the “fifth column” podcast. “We as Democrats nationally, from ‘Latinx,’ to ‘get money out of the police,’ to ‘police organizations are all racist,’ are bringing a bunch of culture wars to our schools. We’re on the losing side of those culture wars. Full stop.”

“You’re worried about getting into the bathroom and the hallway, why not focus on excelling in the classroom?” he asked harshly. “You have 50% of our kids not learning at grade level.”

“Well, they can just say, ‘We can do both,'” said one podcast producer.

“You’ve shown you can’t because you’ve allowed a 30-year-old low in reading and math and no one seems to be blowing the whistle on this,” Emanuel said.

“We lost the plot,” repeated Emanuel. “Because the event has been canceled.”

He went on to say that past successful Democratic presidents “held on” to middle-class values that reached diverse voters. The Democratic Party, he said, “moved from acceptance to speech,” and noted that there is a big difference between the two views.

Why would you destroy the foundation of Title IX with the ability of trans men playing in women’s sports?”

“It’s crazy to me,” he continued. “You’re undermining one of our greatest accomplishments as a country, but also led by the Democratic Party, Title IX! And we’re undermining it!”

Emanuel said that there were many high moments in the first 25 years since the millennium, such as the Iraq War, which he said was falsely started, the 2008 financial crisis where the banks were bailed out, and the COVID-19 pandemic, all of which had one important effect.

In all those events, he said the wealthy were able to continue working while others were paying as their world had changed dramatically. He said, although many people want to point the finger at President Donald Trump for bringing anger to American politics, Trump just rode on the anger that was already there.
