“The View” host Sara Haines said Wednesday that criticism of her previous comments about marriage and motherhood were “misunderstood,” responding to criticism related to Isabel Brown’s speech encouraging Gen Z women to prioritize marriage and having children.
“My last beef with this is that it puts a woman’s value on her eggs,” Haines said on the “Behind the Table” podcast. “Marriage, children, choice … The world has more than 8 billion people. We don’t have to force people to have children and have children anymore. We’re here.”
The conversation came after a segment of the daytime talk show drew criticism online, particularly from Brown, who argued that Haines’ comments undermined traditional family values.

Haines said her goal was not to end the marriage or to become a mother, but to deal with what she described as societal pressures placed on women.
“My story had a bigger message,” Haines said. “I love children. I love marriage. I love all those things. But there is a lot of pressure in this world for women to define themselves by whether they are married or whether they have children.”
He said his opinion is based on what he has been through in his life and that of the women around him.
“My take on it comes from a place of compassion and health,” Haines said. “Knowing many women, married, like dating for years and not knowing if I will find my man to marry.”
Haines said she believes the expectation that women can easily get married and have children is unrealistic for many.
“They make it sound like an easy choice. Get married, have kids,” she said. “There are a lot of amazing women I know who don’t date people.”

He also revealed the challenges that affect fertility and other ways that lead to parenthood.
“There are many people I know who have struggled for some reason to have children,” said Haines. “Whether it was descent – I’m a friend of many couples who have had to fight non-traditional players, all these things.”
Haines said discussions about women often focus on the status of marriage and children.
“We ask women all the time about marriage and children and they seem to be the only ones that are right for them,” she said.
“The beauty of progress over time is that we don’t have to put it on people’s shoulders … You do what you can and what you want because you have more life than that.”
Haines said he believes his comments were taken out of context for certain statistics.
“I refuse to read it because when I saw some of the headlines, I thought, here we go again,” Haines replied.

“Conservative activists have misunderstood what you were saying on the show and what the point was,” said podcast host and “The View” executive producer Brian Teta.
“I think he misunderstood — whether that was intentional or not, he’s missing my point,” Haines said, referring to Brown.
Haines also stated that his comments were intended to reassure women regardless of their health conditions.
“I know many women who, for whatever reason, are single, have no children, and care,” she said. “I would never want to dim someone’s light in life and say they are not important because of that.”
