With talk of the NFL expanding to an 18-game regular season, “NFL RedZone” host Scott Hanson said he heard an interesting idea about bye weeks.
Hanson, 54, said he has heard the idea of a bye week for the league if the NFL were to expand to 18 games.
“If you had an 18 game, do you add a second travel week? I’ve heard the idea of maybe adding an extra game but adding a full bye week which is a whole week for the entire league,” Hanson told Fox News Digital in a recent interview as he partnered with Lowe.

“Maybe there’s an NFL weekend in mid-October, early November, somewhere in the middle of the season, where nobody plays a game, let the players go back, get their bodies ready, everybody can get away from football, a little bit, and then come and play the back part of the season.”
Hanson revealed that for the 18th game to be considered a possibility, many major organizations need to get on the same page.
“Well, look, the biggest thing about that is the organization and the Players Union and all the partners within the NFL ecosphere all need to get on the same page. And this is a big business and a big change. Should it happen? So, they have a lot of conversations to do about that,” Hanson said.

Hanson also noted how much the Super Bowl would happen if the NFL used an 18-game regular season.
“But if you add that game, you extend the season, maybe two weeks, if there’s a bye, which means the Super Bowl is pushed back maybe beyond Valentine’s Day, a lot of moving parts there,” Hanson said.
Super Bowl LVI was farthest in the calendar year in which the Super Bowl was played, when the Los Angeles Rams beat the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 on February 13, 2022. Super Bowl LXI, next year’s big game, will move the date forward, as it is scheduled to be played on February, 174, and Day 20.
