Spencer Pratt is set to face off against Mayor Karen Bass in November in LA

Reality television host Spencer Pratt appears to be on his way to derailing the mayoral race in Los Angeles as he seeks to unseat Mayor Karen Bass in November.

Bass, who has led the city since 2022 amid turmoil rocked by his response to the wildfires, advanced to the run after failing to get a majority in Tuesday’s primary election. With no candidate exceeding the 50% threshold, the top two finishers will face off in a runoff in November.

The expected run is a symbolic blow for Bass, who was endorsed by Gov. Gavin Newsom, D-Calif., and former Vice President Kamala Harris and has spent decades serving California in a series of Democratic offices.

Pratt, a first-time candidate known for his MTV reality show “The Hills,” was running in second place as of Wednesday morning.

“Obviously, God wanted me to expose the failure of our mayor for another five months,” said Pratt, overflowing with joy, when he told reporters when the report came back on Tuesday evening.

Pratt has been engaging Bass on issues that have long plagued the city, including fire repairs, street homelessness and crime. Bass is charged with the wildfire that destroyed more than 18,000 buildings in the city, including his home in Pacific Palisades.

Pratt’s operation appears to have shut out Los Angeles City Council member Nithya Raman, a former colleague of Bass who challenged the left-wing incumbent and was once seen as a threat to his campaign for a second term. Raman is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America and has argued to steer the city in a progressive direction.

Raman has yet to make any progress despite running well behind Bass and Pratt since Wednesday morning.

Pratt, a registered Republican, faces an uphill battle against Bass in November if he moves on to the next election.

Less than 20% of voters in the heavily Democratic city identify with the GOP, even though the Los Angeles mayoral race is not officially contested.

Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., who represents the seat based in San Diego, told Fox News Digital that Pratt won supporters in the mayoral race because of voter dissatisfaction with Bass’ leadership.

“He’s on fire among die-hard Democratic voters because Karen Bass wasn’t successful,” Issa said in an interview. “And every time he opens his mouth, he speaks very similarly to people who have seen their streets, full of crime and in fact … mismanaged.”

Bass, in contrast, says his leadership is leading Los Angeles in the right direction.

“Los Angeles is in a state of transition. After decades of rising homelessness, poorly constructed housing and a shrinking police force, Mayor Karen Bass is finally stepping up to change the way City Hall operates,” Bass’ website reads.

“Homelessness is down, more housing is being built, and the LAPD is hiring new officers,” he said.
