Swalwell resigned from the administration amid allegations of sexual misconduct

NEWNow you can listen to Fox News articles!

Eric Swalwell was so close to becoming governor of California that he was measuring the drapes.

And then, suddenly, it all went downhill, because of his bad behavior.

Last night, after struggling to keep going, Swalwell called off his campaign. He was deluding himself if he thought he could keep running. Finally he faced the inevitable music.

The Democratic Alliance Congress did not have much. His party, led by Nancy Pelosi, Sen. Adam Schiff and Speaker Hakeem Jeffries, wanted him out of the race.

He has denied many specifics when it comes to sexually assaulting women on his staff, but his appointment was clear. His campaign chairman immediately resigned. The state teachers’ union withdrew its support. The service workers union has suspended its campaigns.

In a video on Friday night, Swalwell appeared to tone down his denials:

“I’m not suggesting in any way that I’m perfect or holy. I’ve certainly made mistakes in judgment in the past, but those mistakes are between me and my wife and her, I’m very sorry for putting her in this position.”

Nobody buys that. If you’re a socialite with three kids, it’s not just between you and your spouse. It is also between you and the voters.

LAWYER SWALWELL DENIES MISCONDUCT, SAYS THE CHURCH CARRIED THE NEWS FOR THEMSELVES ‘THROUGH A MISCONDUCT’

Why, knowing the intense scrutiny of a member of the executive branch, would Swalwell be accused of having sex with staff, given the huge disparity between a member of Congress and young women?

When Swalwell says that this is all just to promote his first campaign – “these allegations are false” – he is probably right. But he put it on his back.

Actually, a bandwagon running on four flat tires might be a less problematic candidate. The Manhattan district attorney’s office confirms it has opened an investigation into some of the allegations, and openly invited “survivors and anyone with information about these allegations” to contact its special victim unit.

In addition, House staff and the Swalwell campaign provided news outlets with an unsigned letter saying they were “appalled” by the allegations, calling them “abhorrent, beneath the dignity of those who serve in public office,” and “dishonorable to all Californians.” And another Republican representative, Anna Paulina Luna, wants the House to impeach him.

The media was apparently driving the exposure of the congressman, who represents the San Francisco area. One of the other two major Democratic candidates — former congresswoman Katie Porter or billionaire Tom Steyer — will inherit the veteran’s legacy.

In California’s “primary jungle regions,” the top two finishers make it to the polls in the fall, regardless of party. President Trump has already endorsed former British politician and Fox News host Steve Hilton. But in blue states, the Democratic candidate is guaranteed to win.

The San Francisco Chronicle conducted a series of interviews with a woman who said Swalwell beat her twice when she was too drunk to confess, including one encounter when he was her boss.

The woman didn’t report the alleged assault because she didn’t believe she would, according to the Chronicle, which reviewed texts she sent her friend at the time, as well as doctor’s records showing she wanted to get pregnant and dates for an STD test after the alleged assault in 2024.

CNN also reported on this woman, along with three others who accused Swalwell of various types of sexual misconduct. The woman was shown in private to protect her identity, and said she felt free to meet Swalwell – after a drunken encounter in 2019 – because now she had a partner and felt more confident:

“After that bar closed, we went to another one, I went to the bathroom, and I don’t remember anything after that… I remember the next day, seeing his light that night on top of me, pushing him, holding me. It was very aggressive. It was aggressive.”

“Did you say no?” asked Anchor Pamela Brown.

“Yes. I said no. I said – in the blink of an eye that I remember, I was taking him away from me saying no.”

What are you doing?

“He didn’t stop.”

The unnamed woman said that in 2019, while she was working at Swalwell, she woke up with him naked in the hotel room after a night of heavy drinking. He said he doesn’t remember what happened but he feels in his body that they had sex.

CNN reported that three other women said Swalwell sent them unsolicited explicit messages or nude photos.

The New York Times interviewed the social media influencer reported in the CNN report, Ally Sammarco, who said the congressman sent her inappropriate messages on Snapchat in 2021. Snapchat content is scheduled to disappear after a short period of time.

Sammarco, now 28, told the newspaper that Swalwell told him he was attractive and asked about alcohol.

“A lot of it was like pictures of him traveling, on planes, in hotels, lying in bed, and he’d like things like, ‘What would you do if I were with you’ or, like, ‘I wish you were here,'” Sammarco told the newspaper, adding that he also posted an unsolicited photo of himself with his cane.

“It made me feel angry and uncomfortable. I didn’t ask for that,” Sammarco was quoted as saying. When she posted pictures of the birth of her third child, she says she was texting him: “When will I see you?”

Sammarco says that he stopped responding after realizing that the congressman would not help him find a job.

Meanwhile, Politico, reports that a former employee of Swalwell, while leaving his office, signed a non-disclosure agreement. This was related to discrimination at work, not sexual harassment. A spokesperson denied that the office has used any NDAs.

Swalwell’s attorney has sent letters to the two women cited by CNN, demanding they retract their statements or face legal action.

The letters said the women’s claims “belittled” their “voluntary and cooperative relationship with Mr. Swalwell over many years,” including a former employee asking him for job references.

I think those letters are now lost. You think?

Had these allegations been made by one woman, it would have been easy for the candidate to dismiss them. It’s not the same as the never-before-made sex allegations against Trump and term-limited governor and 2028 challenger Gavin Newsom, he admitted.

Even Swalwell’s close friend, Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego, withdrew his endorsement, calling the behavior “unconscionable.”

Not surprisingly, his party wanted Swalwell out of the race immediately. Instead of going to Sacramento, he ended his political career.
