FIRST ON FOX: A New York family has filed a lawsuit in a Christian court, the Archdiocese of New York and a football coach, alleging that their son was injured after school officials failed to supervise students before a high school sporting event.

In this case, there were allegations that the injured student was the one who was punished, for allegedly using profanity.

The complaint, filed in the New York Supreme Court in Dutchess County, was brought by SO on behalf of her youngest child, LO, a student and football player at Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Poughkeepsie. The lawsuit names the school, the Archdiocese of New York and the former coach as defendants.

According to the complaint, the case dates back to September 19, 2025, the allegations. An incident involving the LO and another member of the school football team. The complaint states that his colleague grabbed the LO and hit him with a concrete pole, stabbing him in the arm, back and hip, and the coach was not there when this incident happened.

After this incident, it is said that the coach asked the team but did not talk to LO except for another player according to the complaint. The letter says the coach focused on LO’s statement that, if he was a “camel,” another player was a “monkey,” which the coach allegedly interpreted as a racial slur. It is said that the coach then ordered the LO to remove the jersey from the inside and sat him on the bench until the warm-up games and the game were over.

The complaint states that the coach did not check on LO’s injury or ask if he was okay even though he was told that he was injured.

The coach was later terminated by the school, according to multiple reports.

The letter states that the LO and his parents did not ask for Cancro to be withdrawn and suspect that the decision was made by the school and/or the Diocese alone.

The case also states that, after Cancro’s termination, LO and his parents became victims of hatred from team members, parents and coaches.

The lawsuit asserts a single cause of action: negligent supervision. It is suspected that the school, the Archdiocese and Cancro have a duty to supervise the students during the athletic event and they violated that duty by failing to ensure that an adult was present before and during the conflict.

The family is seeking compensation for physical injury, emotional distress, mental injury, humiliation, destruction of property and other financial loss, as well as costs and other relief deemed appropriate by the court.

These allegations have not been confirmed in court.

The attorney representing the plaintiffs, Kimberly Lau of the firm Offit Kurman, provided a statement to Fox News Digital.

“The context is important. The child was injured in the school premises while he was being supervised. We hope that the school can work with the family to restore the good condition of the school to him and ensure that all students are protected in the future,” said Lau.
