FIRST ON FOX – The Department of Education (ED) announced Thursday that it will move to a smaller building to reduce the agency’s footprint as part of its decentralization effort.
Department employees will move out of the Lyndon B. Johnson headquarters building, so the Department of Energy can finally move in in August. The move is what officials call “a smart move to save hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars and further reduce the federal education bureaucracy.”
ED said the move will save taxpayers about $4.8 million a year in operating costs and eliminate wasted space in the vacant building by about 70 percent.

“Last year, President Trump signed one of the most important pieces of legislation in his office – dismantling education regulation and returning education to the states,” said Education Secretary McMahon.
The Trump administration announced last week a cooperation agreement between the ED and the Treasury Department, with an official calling it the “biggest step ever” in closing the agency.
The official previously told Fox News Digital that the workers are there working to get them out of work under the orders of President Donald Trump because this organization is not needed.
