Happy Juneteen to everyone out there. I’m sure those words will offend a few readers, but to be honest, I’ll take any corporate vacation, as it means we get time to enjoy whatever we want. I know not all companies are watching, but who doesn’t want a day off in the middle of June? Today is even more special because we also get a USA World Cup game.
My very first soccer article was about the USA world cup team, and the team not only made it, but won. I was wrong about the final results, but I was right about Team USA winning. They managed to take down Paraguay. What I think was most exciting about the game — besides the win — was that the crowd was into the game. I know it’s easy when goals are scored and the team wins, but America is not a soccer country. So, seeing the crowd go crazy and give the team more energy was fun to watch.

Now they have a test against Team Australia. This should be a win for Team USA if we’re going to back them up in their latest game in an international friendly. They played back in October, so the teams are the same. Those games aren’t always predictable, though. In order to keep the momentum going, Team USA will need to stay aggressive in their attack. If they can push the ball downfield, they should look good for the goalkeeper to beat.
The Australian team had a good result in their first game as well, as they won the first tournament against Turkey. I don’t hate the Turkish team. They are also very talented. Some World Cup matches can be canceled because there is a lot of disagreement. Not so here. Australia was using technique in their attack and won the match 2-0.
SWITCHING NATIONALITY IS GREAT, BUT MAKING MONEY IS BETTER: ‘GET THE COMMUNITY IN’ FOR TEAM USA VS AUSTRALIA IN 2026 WORLD CUP

If you look at the statistics of their first match, there is a strong argument that Australia were lucky to win this match. They had half of the shots on goal for Turkey, and had only 28% of the ball. Thus, they were able to take advantage of their opportunity. They committed 12 errors compared to only four in Turkey. I think there should be a fair amount of credit given to the Australian defenders, considering they managed to stop all eight shots on goal, and if their opponents had the ball more often, then they had to stop the pressure more often.
If Australia can slow down the game against America, they may have another chance. I don’t think this is the best team in the tournament, but they don’t seem to make too many mistakes. Will the kangaroo family be able to exploit the mistakes of the USA today?

It is possible. It was the USA who benefited with their first goal, then scored two more in the first half. They created good opportunities, but missed some of those opportunities. Their defense faced one real attack, and their goalkeeper stopped the ball. Australia need to be more aggressive than they were in the first game, but I don’t think that’s their nature. I expect Team USA to win, but I think this will be a low-scoring game. Give me less than 2.5.
