Variety blasts Donald Trump for holding UFC 250 Freedom event at White House: ‘Idiocracy’

There are few things the left hates more than American celebrations. Especially if those celebrations involve large-scale displays of patriotism, or are organized by someone who doesn’t share their political views or belief system.

Which made the UFC event held outside the White House on Sunday evening a perfect storm for members of the left-wing media who crave something they hate. And boy oh boy, did they hate to see an event organized to celebrate the United States.

Variety, ostensibly an entertainment industry publication, published an incredibly angry column from Marlow Stern, who argued that the UFC event was reminiscent of an episode of the movie “Idiocracy.”

“There’s never been a time when Trump’s presidency has more closely resembled the status of “Idiocracy,” Mike Judge’s 2006 slur about a philistine society that hates intelligence, than on Sunday night, as the White House hosted UFC Freedom 250 — a series of MMA fights on the South Lawn apparently aimed at America’s birthday. indeed honoring the 80th anniversary of the birth of President Donald J. Trump, a man who will never cease to be admired and admired by the public,” he wrote.

What now? You don’t have to be a fan of the UFC, or MMA, to appreciate the spectacle and promotion of the event. The flyover, the atmosphere, the crowd and the impressive work of building the stage, stage and stand on the lawn of the White House. All paid for by UFC, not American taxpayers.

Stern was also upset that the “decoration ceremony” was broadcast on Paramount+. Why? Because it’s owned by CBS.

“The gash event was broadcast live on Paramount+, the broadcast platform owned by David Ellison, a Trump supporter who has been retooling CBS News to match MAGA.”

In a way, it seems like Stern would have the same complaints if, say, MSNBC aired a Biden administration “wogash” Pride Month event or something similar. Because it’s not about the UFC, David Ellison, or any reasonable, rational complaint. It’s just blind hatred for Donald Trump and anything associated with Trump. Not to mention that “reshaping” CBS to be “MAGA-friendly” just means trying to inject some perspective into its reporting and broadcasting. But Stern is so used to all the media coverage and media outlets he uses to tilt his political side that equality feels like inequality.

Is Stern made there? No, it’s not. When Joe Rogan described the event as a “surreal” experience, Stern somehow related it to…Jan. 6?

“I’m not sure it was more surreal than seeing a violent mob of thousands of Trump supporters besiege the Capitol, some smearing their feces on its walls, on January 6,” he wrote.

That is the real reason for the column. Stern is an angry liberal, a man whose entire view of the country, of sports, of entertainment, is based on the president’s opinion. If it’s Republican, every event, every comment, every movie, must be judged through that lens. If a Democrat is in charge, it’s the opposite.

While the Biden administration has had a number of outlandish performances, ceremonies and statements, Stern and his ilk have lashed out at anyone who criticizes them. But now that there is an American Day celebration with a special sports event? Rest the anger.

It’s lazy, repetitive and predictable. It is politically motivated criticism of the left in a nutshell.
