Graham Platner, the Democratic candidate seeking to unseat Republican US Sen. Susan Collins in Maine, exchanged sex texts with multiple women after marrying his wife two years ago, according to a report.
Platner’s campaign confirmed the text exchange to Politico following a Wall Street Journal report that his wife, Amy Gertner, told a campaign aide about the texts after he launched his bid for the Senate as they began looking at potential political debts.
Gertner received the messages months after the couple got married in 2024, the WSJ reported.
He revealed this privately before Platner held a campaign meeting last year supported by Sen. Bernie Sanders, Vt., but an aide ruled the documents a private matter for the couple, the campaign said, according to the newspaper.

Gertner said in a statement to the Journal: “I spilled deeply personal information about my marriage to someone I considered a friend. In the months since, I’ve had to watch as he spread vicious gossip to anyone who would call. I trusted this person with the most private chapter in our lives — in the early days of our marriage before any campaign was on our minds — and I feel deeply hurt by his betrayal and our betrayal.”
She added that she and her husband: “Does marriage need hard work? We went to counseling. We trusted each other in ways that were not easy. And we faced it, not despite how much we have faced, but because of the love we have and the life we have built. Our marriage today is stronger than ever.”
Gertner added, “I know who Graham is. I know the man I married and the husband he was to me in the best and worst days of my life. That hasn’t changed, and it won’t change.”

Platner, an oyster farmer and veteran who served in Afghanistan and Iraq, has also faced a number of controversies before this, including a since-removed tattoo resembling a Nazi symbol, and previous controversial comments on Reddit minimizing sexual harassment and making lewd comments about masturbating and a deleted post where he said “what a wounded soldier deserves”.
Despite all this, a recent poll from the University of New Hampshire showed Platner with a 51% to 42% lead among likely Maine voters.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Platner’s campaign for comment.
Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., reiterated his support for Platner on Saturday.
“I’m proud of @grahamformaine for having the character to stand up against the war on Iran, against genocide, and against the wrong and broken economy,” he wrote on X. “I’m proud of him for having a vision for a new deal for our time. I’m excited to campaign with him on June 5!”
Collins called Platner too extreme for Maine.

“I believe that will be the fate of Maine voters,” he previously told Fox News Digital. “But, obviously, I don’t take anything for granted.”
Platner, in an interview with Fox News Digital a week later, said, “The most important thing is someone like Susan Collins, who has been for decades now, making sure that we pass policies that will help organizations and billions harming working people, repeatedly supporting, illegal and illegal foreign wars.”
