A popular San Diego-based taco chain is facing calls for a boycott after a social media user alleged the business’s CEO supported President Donald Trump.

Roberto’s Taco Shop, founded by Roberto and Dolores Robledo in San Diego in 1964, claims to serve “traditional Mexican cuisine” at more than 80 locations in California, Nevada and Texas. The current CEO of the chain is their son, Reynaldo Robledo.

SFGate reported that the Latino-owned business was compromised after a TikTok user posted a video targeting Robledo’s political views.

A TikTok user, who claims to expose “Latino MAGA businesses profiting from La Raza,” shared screenshots of posts supporting the president on a personal Facebook account with Robledo’s name and photo.

The Facebook account appears to have since been made private.

“Has this CEO forgotten that all his restaurants are based on Mexican dishes, who would not have gotten here without the immigrants who are currently involved and the current administration is supporting them?” TikToker asks in a video from April 8. “Are you also forgetting that most of your customers are Latinos?”

“We will allow these people to hide, say and lie about us and stand next to us and close the doors, are they someone else?” he asked.

A Facebook community group called “A Strong Nevada” also called for a boycott of the business.

“Did you know that Reynaldo Robledo, CEO of Roberto’s Taco Shop is a big supporter of MAGA and supports ICE!” the group posted last week. “Looks like you won’t get our business anymore!”

The post on San Diego Reddit also drew hundreds of disgusted comments from users who vowed to avoid the taco chain.

SFGate also reported that Robledo appeared at a meeting of Latinos for Trump’s 2020 meeting with the president, where he thanked Trump for helping Latino businesses, according to a document from the American Presidency Project.

The Las Vegas-based chain posted a statement on Instagram distancing itself from the controversy.

“Roberto’s Taco Shop is proud to be a Latino-owned and operated franchise serving diverse communities throughout Nevada. While our CEO may hold personal political beliefs, it is important to note that each of our 49 franchisees operate their stores independently,” the statement read.
