A Soros-funded nonprofit organized a protest outside New Jersey Governor Mikey Sherrill’s office Monday afternoon, saying the Democratic governor is spreading “MAGA propaganda” and not doing enough for immigrants detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at Delaney Hall in Newark, NJ.

The protest reflects the backlash Sherrill is facing from far-left members of his party. On its donation page, Cooper River Indivisible directs donors to the politically powerful Indivisible Project, a 501(c)(4) nonprofit group that has been active in supporting Democratic politicians.

They work closely with Indivisible Civics, their 501(c)(3) sister organization.

Indivisible receives funding from the Open Society Action Fund, a 501(c)(4), supported by prominent Democratic Alliance donor George Soros.

“WE’RE GOING TO KAMIKIE SHERRILL’S OFFICE – we’re going to hold him accountable for the mess he’s made,” the event’s registration page reads on the Mobilize.us website.

“Governor Sherrill’s response has caused widespread damage inside and outside Delaney Hall. Peaceful protesters and journalists have been arrested, injured, and their constitutional rights violated, all while GeoGroup Guards and ICE continue to retaliate against the strikers,” the announcement continued.

The group is asking Sherrill to meet with illegal immigrants held at the Delaney Hall ICE facility and release detainees who are young, old or sick. “GeoGroup Guards” refers to the security personnel employed by the government contractor, Geo Group Inc., viz. running area as part of its national contract with ICE.

Cooper River indivisible also accused Sherrill of “inciting violence by killing police officers against peaceful protesters” and said he was spreading “MAGA” propaganda after more than a week of protest at the ICE facility.

In 2023, the Open Society Foundations, through the Open Society Action Fund, released a two-year grant of three million dollars to an indivisible organization. The grant was “to support the social activities of the sponsor,” according to the Open Society Foundations website.

Indivisible also played a major role in organizing the “No Kings” protests.

“We support many non-governmental organizations working to deepen public engagement through peaceful participation in democracy, a hallmark of any vibrant society and a right protected by the Constitution,” a spokesperson for the Open Society Foundations told Fox News Digital. “Those who are given grants make their own decisions about their work, which are in accordance with the law and the conditions of their grant agreements.

Demonstrations at Delaney Hall erupted last week. Contrary to the protests’ claims, local law enforcement has not been involved in arresting protesters or quelling the often violent riots, but New Jersey State Police arrested protesters Friday night.

On Saturday morning, Sherrill said state police were present at the scene to protect protesters from ICE, but the violent fight that took place last night was between law enforcement and protesters, according to Fox News Digital’s first witness.

Government troops, including those on horseback, deployed riot control tactics on Friday night, including sound bombs, tear gas canisters, pepper spray and shields in an attempt to disperse the crowd. The police had set up barricades in the area earlier in the afternoon, which led the protesters to fight with the police.

“My priority is keeping the people of New Jersey and our communities safe — and ICE’s presence outside of Delaney Hall is a threat to public safety,” Sherrill wrote in the X on Saturday morning. “We know that people’s lives would be at risk if that happened. And I will not accept that.”

A DHS source told Fox News Digital that the department would not accede to his demands, and that the visit had been suspended due to violent protests. The source also said ICE operations will continue as normal as Delaney Hall is secured, allowing visits to resume.

Fox News Digital reached out to Indivisible and Sherrill but did not receive a response.
