Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce’s upcoming wedding is sparking debate without the rule of thumb

NEWNow you can listen to Fox News articles!
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have so far kept their wedding plans under wraps even with rumors swirling around — but controversy is already brewing.
The famous couple, who have been engaged since August 2025, have not confirmed when or if they will tie the knot. However, according to reports, the couple started talking about the long-standing debate about polygamy.
Swift and Kelce apparently enforce a no-ring, no-bring policy — so if a guest is single or single, they can’t bring a wedding date.

Given the celebrity’s close friendships, this rule could create marital chaos, at least as some people see it.
Swift’s longtime friend Selena Gomez recently married Benny Blanco — and Kelce’s teammate and friend Patrick Mahomes has been married to his wife, Brittany, for just four years. Almost all of them are listed.

But there are other potential problems. One of Swift’s best friends, Gigi Hadid, is in a strong relationship with Bradley Cooper, based on many recent reports – but they are not married.
Swift’s friend, Gracie Abrams, who may have been invited, is in a serious relationship with actor Paul Mescal, as the June Vogue issue and other accounts have made clear. They are also not married.

Kate Middleton’s sister, Pippa Middleton, reportedly used a no-ring policy, bringing the policy to her wedding to James Matthews in 2017.
At the time, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were single. Markle skipped the wedding ceremony but attended the reception, according to Vanity Fair.

The no-ring, no-delivery policy has generated strong reactions online.
An anonymous comment helped fuel the uproar: A single woman reportedly said she was considering skipping the wedding because she didn’t know many people there.

“No one is entitled to a plus-one because they were invited,” professional development expert Jan Goss, based in Texas, told Fox News Digital.
“A wedding invitation [is] gift of installation. … It is not a specific contract that guarantees your specific residence.”

In a Reddit thread, commentators noted that a couple who have been together for 10 years might not even get a joint invitation – while a couple who got engaged after just six months might.

“You don’t have to allow random dates,” wrote one person.
Goss said the controversy surrounding Swift’s potential guest list reflects a larger cultural shift.
“People are increasingly looking at invitations in their mind, rather than thanking them,” she said.

But some Reddit users agree with Swift and Kelce.
“Seems logical,” commented one user about the idea of no ring, no delivery. “She wants marriage with people she really knows, not people who will bring friends as a ‘favor’ to consider her a rare animal.”

“I didn’t want random people I didn’t know at my wedding,” wrote another, “and I’m not a celebrity trying to enjoy my day without pooping.”
Ultimately, “the bride and groom decide what their day is,” Goss said.
“I would remind people that weddings are actually one of the simplest social events. … Think of it as an opportunity to meet new people.”

Goss said it’s okay, just go up and ask the others how you are connected to the bride and groom?
“Focus on celebrating the couple rather than your discomfort,” Goss said.

But going there is not mandatory, he said.
